A Great Day for Oxfordshire’s Juniors!

After two years of playing online, the Young Bridge Challenge was once more to face to face at Loughborough Grammar School on 4th March 2023 with 18 teams competing.

Congratulations go to the Magdalen College School team of Zane Soonawalla, Amaan Kassey, Lawrence Crean and George Aldridge who won the Schools Plate. All learned bridge at the Oxford Junior Bridge Club.

Special congratulations should go to Freddie Beneat, an alumnus of OJBC, who has been teaching Bridge at Abingdon School and took three of his pupils to the competition. They finished in 10th place.

Four current pupils of OJBC, Sofia Wu, Ossie Maurice Williams and Jessica and Emrys Ward were by far the youngest competitors and finished 15th. They were especially delighted at their result on the last board of the day when one of their opponents made a takeout double and his partner left it in!

Thomas and Jacob Potter, alumni of OJBC and playing for Eton College, came 3rd in the Schools Cup.

However, more importantly, everyone young and less young, really enjoyed the day and the return to face to face bridge.
