The Brevard Bridge Club Board has adopted the following policies: 

1. Please treat everyone at the table with kindness and respect. Try to assume good intentions by your partner and your opponents. 
2. In keeping with this philosophy, the Brevard Bridge Club is a Zero-Tolerance bridge club.
   1. The purpose of the Z-T policy is to maintain the  pleasant atmosphere in our club. Below are some examples of commendable behavior, which, while not required, significantly contribute to the atmosphere:
      1. Being a good “host” or “guest” at the table.
      2. Greeting others in a friendly manner.
      3. Praising the bidding and/or play of the opponents.
      4. Having two clearly completed convention cards readily available to the opponents.
   2. The following are examples of behavior that will not be tolerated:
      1. Badgering, rudeness, insinuations, intimidation, profanity, threats or violence.
      2. Negative comments concerning opponents’ or partner’s play or bidding.
      3. Constant and gratuitous lessons and analyses at the table.
      4. Loud and disruptive arguing with a director’s ruling.
   3. If a player at the table behaves in an unacceptable manner, the director should be called immediately.
   4. Annoying behavior, embarrassing remarks or any other conduct which might interfere with the enjoyment of the game are specifically prohibited by Law 74A. Law 91A gives the director the authority to assess disciplinary penalties.
3. Behavior that does not adhere to the Z-T policy will result in the following actions:  
   1. The first offense will result in verbal warning.  
   2. The second offense will trigger a written warning.  
   3. The third warning will result in a suspension, length to be determined based on the offense.
4. Don’t ask for boards before the round has been called. Directors should not remove boards from a table until the round has been called, meaning that the timer has gone off. It is very distracting for players to have boards removed during the play.
5. If you are sitting out, do not look at the boards on the table. Ask the director to put out the casual boards if you want to practice some bidding.
6. Please be aware of talking after you’ve finished playing. Other players are probably still playing, and our room, as you know, does not have much soundproofing.
7. There is no “Psyching”.  A “Psych” is a bid made to intentionally mislead the opponents, usually in a suit that you do not have. While psyching is legal, we don’t allow it at the club, because it detracts from the pleasantness of the game.  A conventional bid is not a psych. For example, a transfer bid of two diamonds to indicate hearts is a convention, not a psych.  Please report any bid that you feel is a psych to the director immediately.
8. Please stay aware of how much time you have remaining in the round. Do not discuss the hands until you are finished playing all of them.
9. If you are the opening leader, put your card face down on the table, confirm that it is your lead,and ask your partner if there are any questions. Once you have made your lead, then write down the contract, and enter it in the Bridgemate if you are North. This helps to speed up the game.

We all want the Brevard Bridge Club to continue to be a welcoming and pleasant place to play the game we all love.  We hope that explicitly stating these policies will help us continue to accomplish that mission.

For those players who enjoy playing Swiss Teams, the Brevard Bridge Club is pleased to announce a regular biweekly Casual Swiss game to be held Tuesday mornings from 9-11:45 at the French Broad Community Center.  These games will be held on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month.  Once we restart classes, they may move to a different day.

Two or more teams will compete, either head-to-head or round-robin, in matches of up to 24 boards (depending on time).  There will be no director, and no masterpoints will be awarded.

Teams interested in participating in this should contact Abe Pallas at 352-262-4899 (phone or cell) or pallasa@bellsouth.net so that he can set up appropriate matches.

We have made some changes to our reservation policy for our  duplicate games.  While we welcome everyone, we will be giving priority to our long-time players.    Please see below.  

1. Reservations will open for Brevard Bridge Club (BBC) members 14 days before the day of the game.  BBC members will have exclusive reservation access for ten days, until 12:01 AM three days before the game.  BBC members can continue to make reservations right up until game time.
2. A Brevard Bridge Club member is defined as anyone who has played in one of our games before June 30, 2024 , OR has played in one of our face-to-face games at least 10 times.
3. Non-members can email June (junepatton@gmail.com) one week before the game to request a reservation.  Non-members may not make reservations through the website.  June will add them manually starting the morning three days before the game.
4. The game will be limited to no more than 12 tables..
5. Reservations will be held until 10 minutes before game time.
6. Anyone who does not show up for a game without cancelling their reservation before game time will receive a warning the first time, and have their reservation privileges suspended for two weeks the second time.

Please note that while you must be a BBC member to make a reservation,  you DO NOT need to login to do so.  

To make a reservation:

1. Click on the Calendar link in the menu to the left (or click HERE).
2. Click on the date of the game for which you would like to make a reservation.  Reservations may be made up to two weeks in advance.
3. Click on the Reservation Required link at the bottom of the popup window.  
   
4. You will see the current list of reservations.  Enter your email address, ACBL number, or name (exactly as it appears on the website) and then click the Check button.  Your email address will tend to work best here.
   
5. Enter your partner's name (and direction, if desired), and then click Add Reservation.button.
   
6. That's it!  You're done.

If you need to cancel your reservation, you can repeat steps 1 - 5.  Your existing reservation will be displayed, and you can click the Remove button at the bottom left of the popup window.  Please cancel your reservation on the website.  Do not contact June to do it.

Reservations will be held until 10 minutes before game time.
