Bente Hansen is relocating to Denmark her childhood home
Bente Hansen is relocating to Denmark her childhood home

I have been playing with Bente for two years .We have become friends . She is a great bridge player , a grand master no less and lovely to play with . She has been getting frail over this time and has been wondering how to handle the  situation. .Before Christmas, her younger son flew in from Denmark and is going to put her on his white horse ( in 21 century one with wings) and is taking her back to her childhood home . She has  many family  members there and apparently her Danish is perfect despite her 55 years in Australia. She has enjoyed her time at Bowral bridge club and was very happy to be so warmly farewelled by so many of her friends . We will miss her.   Camille Farrell.

On Mon Feb 9th, Bente's last day of play, Christine advised  of Bente's imminent departure. Members were invited to share a farewell tipple at the bar.

Dearest Bente, Formidable Bridge Player!  It is time to say farewell to you and that comes with sadness. We have loved having you as part of our community but we know that you are moving on to another happy part of your life with your wonderful son and daughter-in-law who have come here from Denmark to scoop you up and carry you back home. We love you and wish you only happiness in what we know will be an exciting adventure. Think of us fondly from time to time as we will of you.  Christine Jack

PS:  We took Bente shopping today (Feb 11) for a present from the BBC members. She bought an Australian tea towel and a key ring with a map of Australia on it. The card she is holding is a picture of Corbett gardens in tulip time containing the words as above.  Christine Jack

Vale Charlie Windle
Vale Charlie Windle

Sad news indeed – everyone loved Charlie!

Condolences to Jannette, his many friends in The Highlands & The Bowral Bridge Club.

Thanks to Barrie Iredale and Marie Russell, we have been able to delve into some interesting  facts about  Charlie and the start of the Bowral Bridge Club.

Charlie and his late wife Norma were inaugural members of the Bowral Bridge Club along with Marie Russell & Barrie Iredale.  Originally The Bowral  Bridge Club, played at Annesley  before it moved to the Bowral Golf Club, around 2002.

Charlie used to wander up the road to the Golf Club to help with the set-up as early as 2002 and continued until he became unwell.  Laterally it was a good opportunity for he and Barrie to have a chat, mainly about sport.

He was a familiar figure wandering around the tables collecting money (real $) until recently!

Thank you for your huge contribution and your company over the years Charlie!
