Death of Member - Paul Evans 1945-2024 |
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Paul Evans. Paul has been associated with Bolton BC for over 40 years and served as Chairman, Tournament Secretary, Tournament Director along with many years of contribution on the committee. He was a very strong player having represented Lancashire for many years. He was a delight to partner, always gentle, courteous and good humoured at the table. He will be very sadly missed by all his partners and all his opponents who had the pleasure of bridge with him at the table. Joanne Evans has supllied the following tribute:
I was so sad to hear of the death of Paul. For more than 40 years (!!!) we had been bridge partners originally on Thursday evenings and on Wednesday evenings at a different club. After the pandemic our bridge arrangements changed – we started to play on Thursday afternoons with a different set of people, most of whom thought we were a married couple (I wonder what gave them that idea? Evans’s get everywhere!!). Paul taught me a lot – my bridge improved enormously with his help and encouragement and, of course a few arguments!! I, with Philip Taylor, requested that Bolton Bridge Club make him an Hon Life Member to acknowledge all that he had contributed over many years. This was granted. He fought back bravely after a recent stroke which meant he could not direct any more – something he really enjoyed. He very rarely spoke about his illness. But he carried on playing to the end!! We will all miss him.
Joanne Evans
