County News 2019

       Northern Bridge League

The Northern Bridge League is an all play all teams of eight competition held over four Saturdays in the summer months between County Bridge Associations of Northern England & Northern Wales.

This year, Paul Hepworth, John Brearley & Dagmar Fazackerley represented Lancashire in the A division & Dave Pendlebury, Pauline Holden & Robin Atkinson in the C division.

Paul Hepworth & John Brearley, playing with their respective partners Richard Bentley & Ross Shine, were again selected in 2019 to represent Lancashire in the qualifying round of the Tollemache, the national inter-county teams of eight competition. Sadly, Lancashire did not qualify for the final this year.

Pearse McNamara Trophy

Dave Pendlebury, playing with Judy Brearley, again captained the team of ten pairs from various Lancashire clubs in the annual Lancashire/Cumbria match which was held at Lytham Bridge Club in August. Other team members from Blackburn were Barrie & Julia Newall. Both pairs had plus scores, helping Lancashire to a memorable win.

 Lancashire Teams of Four Knockout

John Brearley & Dagmar Fazackerley were members of a team which reached the final of the competition.

Paul Hepworth played in a different team but lost at the semi-final stage.

LCBA Congress Pairs/Teams

John Brearley, with his partner Ross Shine, finished 6th out of 31 in the Pairs.

John & Judy Brearley, Dave Pendlebury & Pauline Holden all supported the Teams event, though playing for different teams.

Championship Pairs

John Brearley & his partner Ross qualified to represent Lancashire in the Corwen Trophy, the national competition for the highest ranked pairs in their county championship pairs event.

Our congratulations to them on finishing in 3rd place out of the 94 pairs in this prestigious & very challenging national competition.
