HCL Day 1 Report
HCL Tournament Opens

The HCL Weekends Teams Special opened to grand start today. With prize money of over Rs. 1 Lakh at stake, this is the biggest tournament handled by Bridge from Home to date. That the nation's biggest patron of bridge has agreed to host a tournament of this magnitude on our platform is an acknowledgement of our abilities to conduct tournaments of the highest quality.

We, on our part, are humbled by this responsibility. In order to cater to the scale of this tournament better, we requested for, and received the help of some of the best administrators and technicians in Indian bridge, namely Sudhir Agarwal, T C Pant and Sandeep Thakral. We are extremely grateful for their inputs and support.

The tournament has witnessed 84 entries, the largest number in a single section and possibly the largest number of entrants to any BFH team event. A few of our teams had troubles participating due to the impact of the cyclone which hit Kolkata. We have provided them the option of starting from the third round tomorrow with an average score for the first two rounds. If they are still unable to participate, BFH will be refunding them their entry fee.

It's very apt that Formidables started with a Bang and are toping the table after 2 rounds.   They will be facing a tough opponent in Atha Group in Round 3.  Team Lock and Load will square off with  Team AK Bose and Team Bengal Liquour facing Lawrence Club Yellow completing the draw for the top 3 tables.  Exciting Bridge is awaiting us on Day 2 with 6 Rounds of 10 Board Matches.

Results for the First Two Rounds

Team Formidables leads the field at the end of the first two rounds, but it is early days yet. Less than 1.5 VPs separate the first five teams. It is hard to envisage a cut off after just two rounds so we will not speculate. Three teams from Kolkata were unable to play yesterday. We do hope that systems get up in time for them to play in round 3. The draw for the next round is put below.

Entries for pairs

We have also received over 170 entries for the pairs event at the time of writing. We would like to remind Teams contestants that registrations for pairs will close at 5 pm sharp tomorrow. If you have not submitted your entries till then, you will only be eligible to play the consolation pairs events should you be eliminated somewhere in the knock out stage.
