TEAM EVENT FORMAT

A team event may consist of minimum 4 and maximum 8 players. However, it is suggested to all teams to have a minimum of 6 players, to avoid player availability problems on all the days. The event will be played over eight days as detailed in the schedule below. The first three days shall be the qualifying round robin or Swiss league depending on the no. of entries, followed by quarter-final KO matches on day-4, Semifinal KO matches on day 5 & 6 and the Final / Play-off KO matches on the day 7.

  • QUALIFICATION STAGE: Either of the formats will be adopted as decided by Tournament Committee based on final entries received:

  • If there are 20 or less teams, then they will be divided in two groups based on BFI master point seeding method. For 16 teams, we will have 2 groups of 8 teams each and 7 rounds of 12 board matches to be played within the group. For 18 teams, we will have 2 groups of 9 teams each and 9 rounds of 10 board matches with one bye round to be played within the group and for 20 teams, we will have 2 groups of 10 teams each and 9 rounds of 10 board matches to be played within the group.

Four top teams from each group will qualify to the Quarter Finals. The quarter-final matches will be of 3 sessions of 10 boards each (to be announced before the start of QFs). For the Quarter-Final line up, A1 can choose either B3 or B4 as their opponent and A2 will automatically have to play against the other remaining team out of B3/B4. Similarly B1 can choose either A3 or A4 as their opponent and B2 will automatically have to play against the other remaining team out of A3/A4.  The winner of match against A1 & B1 teams will be called S1 & S2 and the winner of match against A2 & B2 teams will be called S4 & S3.

The draw for the Semi-Final will be S1 vs. S4 and S2 vs. S3.  The semi-final matches will be of 4 sessions of 12 boards each. Winner of Semi Final stage will enter the Finals, and the losers of the semi-finals will play for 3rd & 4th places (Play-off match). The final matches will be of 4 sessions of 12 boards each, whereas the Play-off matches will be of 3 sessions of 12 boards.

  • For teams between 21 and 30 teams, they will be divided in three groups based on BFI master point seeding method. For 24 teams, we will have 3 groups of 8 teams each and 7 rounds of 12 board matches to be played within the group. For 27 teams, we will have 3 groups of 9 teams each and 9 rounds of 10 board matches with one bye round to be played within the group and for 30 teams, we will have 3 groups of 10 teams each and 9 rounds of 10 board matches to be played within the group.

The 2 top teams from each group and two out of the three teams from the 3rd spot (based on the score at the end of round robin) will qualify for the quarter finals.

  • For above 30 teams, there will be a Swiss league of 9 rounds of 10 boards each  after which the TOP 8 teams will qualify for the quarter-finals. The #1 ranked team will have the option to choose their opponent from teams Ranked 5 to 8. The #2 ranked team can then choose from the remaining teams and so on. Semi-final line up will be A1 Vs A4 & A2 Vs A3.

  • In all above cases, the minimum no. of boards played in the qualification stage will be 80 whereas the maximum boards will be 90.

  • SEEDING METHOD: In case the teams are divided into groups, they will be seeded based on the total average master points (Federation MPs only) of each team. The top average will be seeded 1 and so on.
