This morning (25 August) we used the AGBC PC and router with the BBBC tablets and everything worked fine. Subsequently the Bridge Managers have decided to obtain a new PC rather than share the Bowls Club PC (which looks like it has an intermittent software issue that has caused us all the grief over the past few weeks). If the PC was “ours” a complete replacement of the Windows software would be best, but the PC is owned by the Bowls Club.

Having our own PC will allow the Bridge Club to have exclusive use of the PC, allowing us to do updates as/when we require them and not be beholden to the Bowls Club.

We are getting there - thank you all for your patience on this matter.

BBBC prides itself on being a friendly and welcoming club. It is a Members' Club, but visiting pairs are most welcome - you do not need to be a Bowls player, but you will need a partner as we do not operate a host system.

The Club is not affiliated to the EBU, but is not suitable for beginners.

The EBU announced the following (updated 29 July 2024 – effective 1 August 2024)

Announcements:

• only apply on the first round of bidding i.e. the first (non-Pass) bid and the next three calls
• apply equally over intervention and to advancer’s bids i.e. partner of over caller
• never apply to overcalls
• do apply above 3NT
• always extend with fuller description where appropriate

Please be tolerant if opponents alert when they should announce or announce when they shouldn’t!
