President's Remarks
Janice Rush
Welcome to our newly revised Bridge Club of Houston newsletter!
It has been a long time since the last issue and we sincerely
appreciate the time and effort Charles Collins took to make
it informative and entertaining.
Our club has struggled since COVID just like many clubs across the world.
However, our Board of Directors work very hard to make this club as successful
as it can be. Many thanks to the Twenty Table Committee for proving the
club can be filled to capacity!

Play Bridge With Thomas
Thomas Rush,

June 2024
I’ve been asked to write an occasional column for the Bridge Club of Houston newsletter.
I thought I’d start out with a hand from a recent game. For future hands, to make this column most
useful and interesting, I’d appreciate it if you would send me hands that you found challenging or
interesting, and I’ll incorporate the best of those into future columns. I’m looking forward to that, because
a hand that’s “ho-hum” for Player 1 might be a real challenge for Player 2. The auction, the lead, and
opponents’ actions can totally change the outcome and difficulty of a hand, as you well know. I will ask
that you do your best to include the auction when you send me a hand from play at the club. Without
knowing the auction I’ll be guessing, and the interesting point I take from a hand may have nothing to
do with the problem you had on a different auction than the one I guess happened.

Carol's Corner
by Carol Wilson
Hello, Fellow Bridge Players!
I’ve been asked to write a column for this newsletter, and I’d like to know what you want to hear about. Thomas Rush will be writing
his amazing stuff about bidding and play, so I won’t touch much on that.
But I wonder if you’d like to know some interesting stories about our friends around the tables. Or now and then would you like
a recipe from one of BCOH’s famous cooks? Or how about some little factoids about things like getting to and from the club when major
construction is going on? Or even something not even related to Bridge? (Over the years I have taught many legal secretaries in courses
for passing certification exams, and that included things like grammar matters. I am also avidly interested in and support the use of
Plain Language, and I am a longtime member of a worldwide organization promoting its use in all fields. Would that be of interest?)
Feel free to contact me at carolwilson@earthink.net or on my cell phone (281-642-4050) or my office phone (281-713-5999 x112).
I am anxious to hear from you!
