Health & safety measures for f2f bridge

We have reviewed our original health & safety measures. The following will apply from 20 September 2021:

  • Only players who are double vaccinated or who have taken a LFT (negative result) prior to the session should enter the club.
  • Players are asked to bring a face mask and consider wearing this  when moving through the room.
  • Players must not enter the club if they have COVID-19 symptoms, feel unwell, are in quarantine or have had a positive Covid-19 test or are awaiting the results of a Covid-19 test.
  • If any player develops symptoms after attending the club, they should notify the Director or any Committee member immediately.
  • Please use the hand sanitiser on arrival, departure and after the tea/coffee break.

Other safety measures will include:

  • A limit of 12 tables but advanced booking not required
  • Contactless payment
  • Use of electronic tablets for scoring
  • Increased ventilation
  • All equipment (including the toilets) will be sanitised or isolated for 72 hours.

We hope you feel confident to join us and look forward to seeing you at the club soon.

Reopening Bath BC for f2f bridge: an update

Reply to:

Dear member

Thanks to all of you who've completed our online questionnaire. We've had around 150 responses to date and the questionnaire is now closed (though please feel free to reply to this email).

Your responses indicate that many are ready to return to face-to-face bridge, so we intend to open on Tuesday 20th July - two weeks later than originally planned.

We will start with the previously outlined programme (see website), using table screens and tablet scoring.

Following feedback, there will be some changes to the previously announced measures:

  • Pre-registering for f2f games will not be necessary: simply turn up to play.
  • Players will retain a single bidding box for the session. The box will then be quarantined for at least 72 hours. If you prefer, feel free to bring your own bidding box.
  • Tables will be widely spaced around the room, with extra tables opened up as necessary, up to a maximum of 12 tables (which we don't expect to need for a while, at least).

Our thanks to Kerri Sant, Susan Murray and Marion Cowley, who will remain available to help members find partners for both f2f and online bridge. As well as finding partners for individual events, they may be able to help with more permanent partnership arrangements for f2f bridge - discretion is assured!

Note that members can also seek partners by clicking on an upcoming event or by leaving a message on the Bridgewebs message board. Details are available on the website.

What is '9 HIGH' Pairs?

This new face-to-face session is aimed at a wide range of players and includes those who normally play in Improvers Pairs and Social Pairs. Anyone with an NGS from 2 up to 9 can play (or higher, provided the combined NGS is no more than 18). The aim is to foster a competitive but friendly atmosphere in which less experienced players are helped along as and when necessary by their more experienced colleagues. We will be playing at a relaxed pace, with a maximum of 20 boards per session.

We will be in touch with a further update nearer the time.

Meanwhile, we hope you continue to enjoy our online games, and if you haven't yet tried RealBridge give it a try - it's the nearest thing to f2f bridge we have just now!

With best regards

The Development Subcommittee
