A win for everyone
Everyone was a winner at our very first Charity Bridge Day at Shaft Road, directed and scored by Chris and Trevor. We had a full house of 52 players, 26 boards of bridge separated into two halves by a splendid two-course lunch, followed by a raffle with some pretty wonderful prizes and ended the day with prizes for the top four pairs and tea with plentiful home-made cakes.
Judith Thomas - along with her two elves, Sarah and Lyndsey - performed a minor miracle in the kitchen, serving thirteen tables with main course and dessert with not a hint of chaos or congestion and leaving the kitchen as spotless as it's ever been. Her partner Susan Murray sold raffle tickets (and how!) and conducted the raffle seamlessly before the bridge prizegiving - see pic above.
We've now done the sums, and are delighted to announce that we will be donating £1130 to Dorothy House. Our grateful thanks go to:
- The Rugby Club, for letting us use the venue on a Saturday and for generously providing the bridge prizes
- David Jacklin, who worked tirelessly to assemble a really lovely collection of raffle prizes - and to those who generously donated those prizes
- Judith, Sarah, Lyndsey and Susan for running everything other than the bridge
- Two Marions - Cooper and Loudoun - who provided the wherewithal for the Plant Sale
- Trevor and spouse Janette, who gave their day over to helping with anything and everything and are now recovering on a cruise around the British Isles.
And last of all, of course, thanks to all those who came along, played bridge, bought raffle tickets and, we hope, had a really enjoyable day.

PS We now have a date for the Kingswood Charity Bridge Day, postponed from the summer: it will take place at Kingswood School on Saturday 12 October. Katie will be contacting previous participants by email. If you've not done the Kingswood day and would like to, we'll be publishing contact details on the website soon.
