Beginners Course - The detail |
The beginners course can be either 2 or 3 ten-session terms depending upon the ability of the students. It will cover the basic principles of playing bridge.
By the end of the Course you will be able to play socially and start playing in Bridge club sessions.
The course will follow the English Bridge Union (EBU) Beginning Bridge Book 1, known as the Red Book.
Each lesson will last approximately 2.5 to 3 hours and consist of a presentation followed by playing cards in support of the topic outlined in the presentation.
By the end of the course you should understand the following:
- The concept of a bidding ‘auction’ to arrive at a ‘contract’.
- The difference between balanced and unbalanced hands.
- Declarer techniques.
- Defence techniques
- Competitive bidding basic techniques – when all 4 players enter the auction.
- Other bidding techniques.
- An introduction to bidding conventions.
- More techniques for card play when declarer or in defence.
- Revision and practice of topics in term one.
- Transfers
- Bidding Strong Hands
- More techniques for card play when declarer or in defence.
The cost of a 10 week term is £60 with an option to buy the course material (Red Book) for £30.

Teaching - Beginners Course |
At the start of the first session you will become an Associate Member of the club which will entitle you to receive club newsletters, attend the AGM, play bridge in the club's online Social lounge and attend any other learning opportunities. At the end of the course you will be eligible to apply for full membership of the club which will also entitle you to play in any club session.
