| Mollie Simmons Swiss Pairs 29th April |
This is a Swiss Pairs competition in memory of Mollie Simmons who was a founding member of the club, did the scoring and master points certificates twice a week for about 30 years before the era of computers and recipient of the Dimmie Fleming Award from the EBU for services to bridge. It is a charity event open to all members and visitors, played annually starting at 10.00 am on a weekday. It normally includes a light lunch (f2f). Swiss Pairs works like this: Your first opponents are drawn at random. All pairs play the same boards in (usually) six 6 or 8 board matches. The first match is scored as match pointed pairs over the whole room. Then you are allocated your next opponents according to your first round score: i.e. the top scoring pairs play each other and the bottom scoring pairs play each other. So you should play another pair who had a similar score to you in the first round. After every match you are allocated opponents whose total score is as near to yours as possible.
Charity is St Michael's Hospice - cost is £10 to include lunch and donation to charity.
