Beginners Course

At the start of the first session you will become an Associate Member of the club which will entitle you to receive club newsletters, attend the AGM, play bridge in the club's online Social lounge and attend any other learning opportunities.  At the end of the course you will be eligible to apply for full membership of the club which will also entitle you to play in any club session.

Learning to Play Bridge - Beginners Course Term 1

 

This is the first term of 3 ten-session terms which will cover the basic principles of playing bridge. 

By the end of the 3 ten-session terms you will be able to play socially and start playing in Bridge club sessions. 

 

The course will follow the English Bridge Union (EBU) Beginning Bridge Book one, known as the Red Book. 

Each lesson will last approximately 2 hours and consist of a presentation followed by playing cards in support of the topic outlined in the presentation.

By the end of the 10 sessions you should understand the following:

  • The concept of a bidding ‘auction’ to arrive at a ‘contract’.
  • The difference between balanced and unbalanced hands.
  • Declarer techniques.
  • Defence techniques

The cost of the term is £60 with an option to buy the course material  (Red Book) for £25.

Learning to Play Bridge - Beginners Course Term 2

This is the second term of ten-session lessons which will cover the basic principles of playing bridge. 

 

Each lesson will last approximately 2 hours and consist of a presentation followed by playing cards in support of the topic outlined in the presentation.

By the end of the 10-week term you should understand the following:

  • Competitive bidding basic techniques – when all 4 players enter the auction.
  • Other bidding techniques.
  • An introduction to bidding conventions.
  • More techniques for card play when declarer or in defence.
  • Revision and practice of topics in term one.

The cost of the term is £60.

Learning to Play Bridge - Beginners Course Term 3

This is the third term of ten-session lessons which will cover the basic principles of playing bridge.  

 

Each lesson will last approximately 2 hours and consist of a presentation followed by playing cards in support of the topic outlined in the presentation.

By the end of the 10-session term you should understand the following:

  • Transfers.
  • Bidding strong hands.  
  • More techniques for card play when declarer or in defence.
  • Revision and practice of topics in terms one and two.

The cost of term is £60.  After completing the Beginner's 30 session course we encourage you to join our Thursday evening session at 7.15pm.  You can also further your learning by joining one of the Supervised Play Sessions.
