Is Bridge a hard game to learn? ~

There is quite a lot to learn Ė the trick is to break lessons down into bite size chunks. Itís not rocket science and our experienced teachers know the right proportion of tuition to practice to keep students interested as well as informed! ~

Do I need a partner?

Absolutely not! Feel free to come to lessons on your own. We will do everything we can to help you feel comfortable whether you come alone, in couples or in groups.

No previous card experience necessary, although those who have played whist games will have a small initial advantage. Starting from scratch the student is taken through card play and the rudiments of bidding and at the end of the course would be ready for a gentle game with friends. ~

For those who have had some previous bridge experience, or who have completed a beginners course. It is also most suitable for those revising what they know or wanting a refresher course to ease themselves back into the game after a gap. ~

Club duplicate regulars and experienced rubber bridge players will find that this course is aimed at them. It aims to concentrate on areas of potential improvement for the experienced player, including the development of bidding systems, defensive techniques, card play and competitive auctions amongst other themes. ~

Much of the content of the course will be group-led, with many topics being suggested in advance by students. ~

Complements all the courses run at the Avenue and can be the ideal place to play in your own social fours. You play rubber bridge as normal, but, if in difficulties, you may call upon the supervising expert to help you out with aspects of bidding or play. ~

Come on your own, as a pair, or in a group; you pay only for the session that you attend. Whilst it is important to learn the theory of bridge, it is also important to put what you learn into practice and supervised bridge gives you just such an opportunity. ~

For those who want to play duplicate bridge, Bridge Bug offers the friendliest of introductions to the game. ~

Sometimes starting with a short (20 minutes) lesson, Bridge Bug plays a gentle, non competitive duplicate game, which may act as a springboard for those who would like to play in the regular club games (e.g. Thursday Evening Simple Systems Duplicate). ~

Christopher Cup ~

All students who have enrolled in a course at the Avenue Bridge School from 2007 to the present will be eligible to play in the Christopher Cup. This includes Supervised Play and Bridge Bug. ~

Starting in October, this gentle introduction to competitive bridge will be played as a rubber bridge knock-out competition for pairs. Winners keep the cup for one year and receive a memento of their success. ~
