The Aurora Bridge Club has a mentoring program! |
Here’s how the program works:
- Names and contact information for all mentors will be listed here, below.
- Mentees should feel comfortable contacting any listed mentor.
- Each mentor/mentee partnership should last three or four games.
- Mentors and mentees will play at regularly scheduled games; we will not be running special mentor/mentee games.
- Mentors are encouraged to accept requests (to mentor) from anyone; however, if a mentor feels the mentee would better benefit from a partnership with another mentor, it’s okay to make that suggestion. For example, some mentors may be better suited for intermediate/advancing players, and may feel that a beginner would do better with a different mentor.
- The mentoring program is not a partnership desk. Mentees should be genuinely interested in learning new things, improving their skills, reviewing the hands from each session, and listening to the advice of their mentor.
Expectations for the Mentor:
- Mentors will never chastise or complain.
- During the game, mentors will take notes (simple annotations are fine) so that – post-game – they can offer specific, constructive feedback.
- Mentors will be open to questions and will not take offense when their advice is challenged. That’s often just part of the learning process.
- Other than their game fee paid (by the mentee), mentors will not attempt to solicit any other remuneration.
- Mentors will be positive and respectful.
Expectations for the Mentee:
- Mentees will pay the game fee for themselves and for their mentor.
- During the game, mentees will take notes (simple annotations are fine) so that – post-game – they can remember their questions.
- Mentees will be open to feedback. While they may ultimately disagree with a certain piece of advice, they will listen and appreciate.
- Mentees will be positive and respectful.
