The choir was founded in 1922 and since that date (apart from the war years) has kept alive a continuous tradition of study and performance of a wide range of choral works, from the Renaissance period to the present day.
Our conductor is Tec Fawcett, and we are affiliated to ‘Making Music’ (the National Federation of Music Societies). Abbots Langley Singers is a registered charity.
We perform three concerts a year, one at the end of each “school term”. The concert in late November/early December includes seasonal music and is performed in St Lawrence church. Our Summer concerts alternate; when we perform as part of the ALFA festival the concert usually takes place in St Lawrence church and includes a substantial choral work. In alternate summers we hold a buffet concert, usually in Henderson Hall, performing lighter music; songs from shows and opera choruses etc. The Spring concert often includes lighter choral works.
We also provide our Choir for Hire service at weddings, christenings and funerals where no other choral support is available. Please contact us for further information at firstname.lastname@example.org
The beautiful church of St Lawrence is located at the end of the High Street at the junction with St Lawrence Close and the Henderson Hall is located in the centre of the High Street.
Rehearsals are held in the Methodist Church Hall, Langley Road, Abbots Langley, on Thursday evenings from 8.00pm to 10.00pm. The singing Terms closely match school Terms.
Tec, who joined the Singers in January 2008, has been involved with choral music both as a singer and later conductor for over 50 years. He has a broad singing and conducting repertoire and has been Musical Director of the Cholmeley Choral Society in North London for the past 11 years.
Tec has an enthusiastic but relaxed manner that ensures every rehearsal is an enjoyable and rewarding experience for all.
