Welcome To Aldbury Bridge Club
Coronavirus - Bridge Club Suspension

As the UK is moving from a status of ‘containment’ to ‘delay’, the Government is amending its advice to the public. The experts have referenced the need in the near future for the over 70’s to self isolate.

The Committee’s number one priority is the health, safety and wellbeing of our Members. It is therefore with regret that we wish to announce that we are suspending our Monday night Bridge with immediate effect i.e. there will be NO Bridge this Monday, 23rd March and for the foreseeable future. We fully appreciate that this will disappoint some Members, but on balance we believe this is the only option to maintain the wellbeing of everyone.

We request that Members have patience and understanding with the decision to temporarily close the Club at this time. Whilst we believe we are acting responsibly, quickly and with balance, like everyone we have no experience of coping in this situation.

The Committee will be reviewing Government guidance in the forthcoming weeks to decide when it would be safe to re-commence ABC’s Monday Bridge nights. We will continue to communicate regularly with any updates as they occur via email and advised on the website. It would be appreciated that you ensure that your regular partner is also aware of this information.

We thank you for your understanding at this unprecedented time and please take care of yourselves and your families; the Committee looks forward to seeing you again in the not too distant future.

About Aldbury Bridge Club

Welcome to the website of Aldbury Bridge Club.

The Aldbury Bridge Club aims to provide an informal, friendly and informative environment for bridge players of all abilities: beginners, returners to bridge, improvers and intermediates. You do not need a partner for any of our sessions.

The club meets in the Valiant Trooper Public House in Aldbury village at 7:20pm for a 7.30pm start on Monday evenings (except Bank Holidays).

On the last Monday of every month, we run a more formal duplicate bridge session where players can test their game against other members of the club. On other Mondays, we play pre-dealt random hands which can be compared to an optimum results sheet. These Mondays will occasionally be preceded by a short tutorial/playing lesson on specific subjects that members have requested.

Sessions usually finish shortly after 9.30 pm.

If you would like further information you can call Hugh Neill on 07956 365255.

Alternatively, you can join us on Monday evenings at the Valiant Trooper from 7.30pm.

The 17th century cottages that comprise the Valiant Trooper have served as alehouses for many centuries.

The first traceable evidence is when the property, then known as the Royal Oak, was left in the will of one John Barnes in 1752. It then came into the possession of Isaac Dell Master whose initials "ID" and the date 1769 can be seen incised in the brickwork alongside the main window. The name changed to the Trooper Alehouse in 1803 – rumoured to be because the Duke of Wellington met his troops here to discuss tactics.
