(Not EBU affiliated)
Visitors and new members are always welcome. All but one of the clubs are EBU affiliated and all operate a host system, so even if you do not have a partner one week, come along - we guarantee to provide you with a partner. Sessions are played in a friendly, competitive atmosphere where all players are welcome whatever their level of duplicate club bridge experience.
We were very sad to hear of John's death a few days ago. John was a consistent player at the club and will be remembered for his deep, dry sense of humour. Helen, his regular partner will, we know miss partnering him. Two days ago (1st August) we received the following email from his daughter and son:
"The funeral isnt until Friday 23rd august (due to availability at burial ground). It'll be at 1:30pm at Clayton burial ground in Hassocks, BN6 9PD (he has a plot next to his late wife Pam). Followed by a wake at Tottington Manor in Edburton, BN5 9LJ
In his prime Dad loved brightly coloured clothes so we encourage you to dress brightly, but it's not compulsory.
Clayton Wood's rule on flowers is “only fresh cut flowers without ribbon or cellophane are allowed. Please do not use oasis or any plastics, nor tie cards or other memorabilia to trees. Vases, jars or containers can not be left on the grave.” With this in mind we encourage donations to be made in lieu of flowers (dad was definitely not a flowers man in later life). My brother Rob and I felt Macmillan was an appropriate charity (due to their support to Pam and him during her illness). There will be information at the funeral of how you can donate in his name, or you can contact the funeral directors Chalcrafts in Steyning and they can provide more information.
Please can you let us know if you're able to come so we can let Tottington know how many to expect? I'm happy for my email address you be shared for members to reply directly to me.
