Well done, Everyone!
Peter Freer, beloved husband of unit member Jan Duncan, passed away Friday, July 12. Although Peter was not a bridge player, he embraced the Duncan Bridge Center and was an avid supporter of its vision for bridge in the valley. Peter will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
It is with a deep sadness that we share the passing of Luella Becken, on Tuesday, July 16.
Luella was a longstanding member of our unit. A professional dancer for twenty-five years, Luella graced stages from Hollywood to New York City with tours in Las Vegas. She and her late husband retired in the desert and bridge became her passion. She shared her infectious enthusiasm for the game, and with life in general, with her partners and competitors. Her favorite club was the one holding an Open game on the day she was playing. Luella was chosen to receive the Edith Hirschman Sportsmanship Award in 2016, a fitting tribute to a woman who embodied the special qualities that all bridge players should aspire to demonstrate at the tables. Luella is survived by her three devoted friends in Unit 533 – William Stine, Jerry Ritter and Gary Bolton.
