AED Defibrillator |
 Automatic External Defibrillator
The Bridge Center has an AED or Automatic External Defibrillator. This life-saving device is located on the wall just inside the main entrance. We also have a teaching kit including a video and instructions. This kit is on the bottom shelf of the bookcase. I will be happy to demonstrate the AED and other aspects of resuscitation. When you see me at the Bridge Center, just ask or you can e-mail.

Bridge Center Reopening Plans as of March 26 |
This link is a list of procedures that all players are expected to follow, Players Responsibilities.pdf With covid vaccines becoming widely available and many of Unit 146 members already vaccinated the Bridge Center will reopen for club bridge games, for players who are fully vaccinated, on Monday April 5. The Bridge Center and club owners have worked closely together to develop health and safety procedures designed to offer the most reasonable and prudent protection for all players. The initial plan for reopening is that the Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday morning games will all begin the week of April 5 and all will start play at 10:15 AM. Monitor this website for any schedule changes. It is worth remembering that the Bridge Center was created by the Unit eleven years ago to provide a centralized location where Unit members could enjoy playing bridge. Without attendance at the club games that pay rent to the Bridge Center it will run out of money by summer and will lose the building.

Bridge Center Survival |
Fellow Bridge Players,
As we near the end of the third week of the Bridge Center reopening, I want to give you an update on where we are and where we are heading. Initial attendance as we expected has been low. For the five open games now being held we had 10 tables in week one, 17 tables week two and 12.5 tables week three with the Sunday game still to be held. I know there is still some covid reluctance to play on the part of some players. With the measures we have put in place I really think the Bridge Center is one of the safest places you can be other than home alone. Probably no where else would you know the status of everyone there, fully vaccinated and wearing masks. I know there are some who have not yet been fully vaccinated, and I hope we will see you when you are. Another factor is that many players have become comfortable and satisfied with playing online. I am sure in the future the option of online play will remain available, but I do not think many of us don’t want that to be the only option.
We anticipate that Beth Brown’s Monday NLM game will restart in June and we hope Anne Duty’s Friday Open/NLM game will also restart soon. NLM’s are certainly welcome to play in the five open games now being held. They are stratified games. That means you would play everyone, but you would compete with other NLM’s for the masterpoints available to your strata.
Our building owner has donated another $3000 to help us out. With his own financial difficulties ha can not do more than that at this time. We need to reach near a pre pandemic level of attendance to survive. We need to get to about 60 tables a week. If Sectionals start in August as currently planned the rent the Unit pays the Bridge Center to hold them there will help.
Players have asked about donations to the Bridge Center to help out. Donations alone can not put the Bridge Center in a position to survive, only increased attendance can do that. Donations can only give us more time to reach the required attendance level and get back to Sectionals. If with a clear understanding of the situation you want to make a donation it can be made payable to The Bridge Center and mailed to Bob Hendricks at 2425 Ocean Shore Cres, #201, Virginia Beach, VA 23451.
A reminder that the Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday open games are all being played at 10:15 AM. The Sunday open games is at 1:30 PM. Any changes or additions will be posted on the Unit website. If you have any questions or comments about anything related to the Bridge Center feel free to e-mail me. Hope you all remain well and that we’ll see you at the bridge table again soon.

Bridge Center |
With the recent CDC and Virginia guidance that the fully vaccinated should wear masks indoors being a recommendation and not a requirement the Bridge Center policy will not be changed. Only the fully vaccinated will be permitted to enter the Bridge Center for all club games. The wearing of a mask is an individual decision and will not be required by the Bridge Center. Hope to see you at the bridge table.
