Update after the first session on 4th March
Bill and I were delighted to see 28 players yesterday at the Sailing Club resulting in 7 full tables at our first Duplicate session.
Thank you all for your support
Unfortunately due to building works at the Sailing Club there will be no Bridge next Friday but we shall resume on 18th March and we look forward to seeing you all then
Message from Bill Gardner
As a number of you will know, it was the intention of Jayne and myself to restart ABC after the COVID restrictions were lifted. However, we had the problem of falling attendances and several of the regulars had said that they were not willing to play through another winter in the Cricket Club. So Jayne and l were due to meet after Xmas to discuss a possible move to the Sailing Club, something that had been suggested after Tony died but Jayne was not over happy with the idea, because it was Tony's club and he liked the Cricket Club. However regrettably Jayne passed away at the end of December. Bridge had been Jayne's life for many years and she would want the club that she and Tony had put so much into over the years to continue, and in the manner that they had run it for nearly 30 years. Pat Welsh had already made some plans to open up her club at the Sailing Club on a Friday, so l have been in discussions with Pat about us trying to run a merged club at the Sailing Club on Fridays starting the beginning of March.
The Sailing Club have agreed we can try this on a trial basis for 4-6 weeks under the ACE banner to see if it will get the numbers and if it does we will then formulate it as a proper EBU members club with a Committee from the beginning of May.
