Here is the full deal for Board 15. N-S can make 6H but can you bid it? Particularly when West competes vigorously in Spades
Here are suggestions made so far:
1. South opens 1H, followed by a 1S overcall by West. North ignores the overcall and bids Jacoby 2NT (assumes the pair play systems ‘on’)
South bids 3D showing a shortage/control in Diamonds; North bids 4C showing a shortage/control in Clubs; South bids 4S showing a shortage/control in Spades; North bids 4NT (Roman Key Card Blackwood) and gets a response of either 1 or 4 key cards. North now wrongly assumes it’s all 4 key cards and bids 6H which is an easy contract to make. The fact that 3 key cards (all Aces) are missing is negated by the voids and a singleton Spade in the N/S hands.
2. South opens 1H, followed by a 1S overcall by West. North ignores the overcall and responds with 4C (Splinter). South bids 4NT (Roman Key Card Blackwood) and gets a response of either 1 or 4 key cards. This time South assumes it’s all 4 key cards and bids 6H which is an easy contract to make.
