2016/7 Programme
Block 1
Battling for the contract
How often have you let the opponents play in a part score when a contract, even if just a part score, was on your way? Even if they go a trick or two down you will often find you get a poor score as a better result is to bid to your game.
Session 1: Competing for the contract: overcalls and their responses. Take out and Negative Doubles. Conventional overcalls including pre-emptives such as michaels, unusual 2NT.
Session 2: Getting in the way of the opponents- pre-emptive bidding part I: weak 2 opens and responses. Weak jump overcalls
Session 3: Getting in the way of the opponents- pre-emptive bidding part II: weak 3 level opens and 4 level opens with conventional responses. How to compete against these opens.
Session 4: The Lebonsohl Convention: how to compete against a weak 2 open. More advanced*
Block 2
Why the weak 1NT open is effective and yet dangerous
This block recaps on the standard responses to 1NT and builds conventional responses to compete against 1NT and defend against intervention over partners 1NT open.
Session 5: Taking further the standard conventional responses to 1NT opens
Session 6: How to compete over a 1NT open part I. conventional overcalls.
Session 7: How to compete over a 1NT open part II. Doubling 1NT opening bids and how to defend against it if you are so doubled
Session 8: The Lebonsohl Convention: how to respond to partners 1NT when there has been intervention.
More advanced *
Block 3
Dealing with Big Hands
Big hands don’t come up often so its very frustrating when they do and you don’t have suitable conventions to handle getting the best out of your fortune.
Session 9: Strong 2 Opens: 2NT and 5 card stayman. Strong 2C opens and Benji 2D opens.
Session 10: Various ACOL responses and conventions to handle strong hands: Reverses, jump shifts, Jacoby & pudding raise, splinters and cue bids
Session 11: Going Slamming: when and how to use conventions to explore slams
