Master Points

The Club sends Master Points by e-mail directly to the EBU for EBU members.  This means that certificates are not printed for these players.

Certificates will continue to be printed for non-EBU members, but only on a 3-monthly basis and not weekly as previously.  Similarly the e-mail to the EBU will only be sent 3-monthly.

EBU members may wish to check from time to time that they are receiving their Master Points as expected.  This can be done via the EBU web site. www.ebu.co.uk

Committee Meeting Minutes

THE WINDSOR BRIDGE CLUB

Minutes of a committee meeting held Monday Monday 3 March 2008 at 6 pm at NWCA, Windsor

Present for the committee: John Tryon (Chairman), Iain Oldcorn (Secretary), Glenice White (Treasurer), Pat Harris, Monica Taylor, Hilary Wordham.

1.                    Apologies for absence were received from Michele Eaton

2.                    It was proposed by John Tryon and seconded by Glenice White that Margaret Maskell be co-opted onto the committee under rule 6.  This was agreed unanimously and Margaret then joined the meeting.

3.                    The previously circulated minutes of the meeting of 4 Feb 2008 were approved as correct and signed off by the Chairman.

4.                    Matters arising: AOB - two new members (Pamela Barnes-Taylor and Bill Utterson) had been advised that their membership had been approved and so their joining fees should be collected.

5.                    The Treasurer gave a brief summary of the financial position: income so far this year was £644 against an expenditure of £256 and average attendance on Monday evenings was 9 tables.

6.                    All membership renewal letters had been handed out or posted out; 43 members have renewed so far.  It was noted that a number of members were still abroad and it was agreed that we should not chase up members that have yet renewed their membership until April; Monica will advise John of the situation at that time.

7.                    The new season programme was agreed plus some adjustment of the wording regarding competitions.

8.                    It was agreed to participate again this year in the Ecats Simultaneous Pairs competition in November.

9.                    John will discuss with Bridget Hughes the possible participation of a team from the WBC in the Bracknell Business League or other local leagues or of holding “friendlies” with other local clubs.

10.                 John advised that the continuation of the directors’ training for himself and Chris Maskell, as endorsed at the AGM, is likely to be successfully completed following constructive suggestions from Nigel Thompson (acting B&BCBA chairman); John Pain, an accredited EBU trainer would run the follow up course(s).

11.                 Matters arising from AGM:

- the format of the Christmas Party will remain basically unchanged from last year except that a normal evening of bridge will follow the initial refreshments; in addition members will be able to play with their usual partner and everyone will be encouraged to attend, while a committee member will drop out if it is necessary to make an even number of players.  Raffle tickets will be sold at £1 each

- Bridget Hughes expressed an interest in becoming an assistant Director and subsequently so has Chris Joss and they will be added to the rota.  Iain will look out and circulate some details of “Roles and Responsibilities” for club “officials”.

12.                 Any other business:

- Iain Oldcorn advised that he did not wish to carry on producing the newsletter, Monica had not taken this job on and no other committee member was able to do it.  It was agreed to drop the newsletter for the time being but to improve the flow of information to the members by other means, so one copy of the minutes of each meeting will be placed on each table on a Monday evening and they will also be posted on the website

- John will attend a meeting of the NWCA committee due on Mar 11th.  We have 3 members of WBC as NWCA members.

- Nigel Thompson has asked John Tryon to attend an informal meeting of B&BCBA on Friday April 4th on behalf of WBC.  This is to discuss general matters such as membership retention and in particular to seek opinions about the potential EBU changes.  This initiative was welcomed.  John will also use the opportunity to discuss matters such as local friendlies and sharing bridge “weekends away” with local clubs.

- It was noted that the South Bucks Bridge Centre was very successful, often with 25 tables present though the standards of play are very variable; it is believed that their use of the Bridgemate system to give near instantaneous scoring may be helping this success; however, it was noted that the Bridgemate system would be quite expensive for WBC to invest in.

13.                 Date of next meeting: 7 July 2008

The meeting closed at .
