Learning Pathway

There are many routes into playing bridge: the three term Beginners course, online learning, Play and Learn sessions and one to one learning with a mentor.  The approach at Wimbledon Bridge Club is to combine classroom learning with supported playing sessions, to help you progress at your own pace to full duplicate playing sessions.  Each course is three terms of 10 weeks each.

Beginning Bridge  Term 1 offers a basic introduction to the game for people who have never played bridge before. Terms 2 and 3 are designed for those people who have played a little bridge before and would like to continue learning the bidding and more card play techniques. We encourage learners to arrange self-led practice sessions at the club as well as attending the weekly 2-hour lessons.  From term 1, you can start to play in the club's supervised play sessions and towards the end of this course, we would expect many learners to be playing in supervised duplicate sessions.

After completing the Beginners course, we usually recommend a period of play and consolidation before moving onto the second year course.  This period varies from person to person and may depend on how much time you have to commit to practicing between classes.

Improve your Bridge  These courses are suitable for players who are confident with the basic system and card play techniques. You should be playing regularly in supervised/gentle sessions.

Intermediate/Advanced   This is a bespoke course, written specifically for Wimbledon Bridge Club players. Learn conventions commonly played at the club, plus develop your play and defence techniques. There are three Intermediate/Advanced courses of 10 weeks each. Suitable for players/partnerships with a minimum of 2-3 year’s experience. You should be playing regularly in club duplicate sessions
