Mini Workshop - the Lightner double: Thursday 19th February 4:30pm

Lis Bingham, teacher and expert player, is running a Mini Workshop on the interesting topic of the Lightner double.  This will be after the Thursday afternoon session on 19th February from about 4:30pm to about 5pm.  No need to book and there will be no charge.  Theodore Lightner was an American bridge player in the early days of contract bridge in the late 1920s who invented the idea of doubling a slam to ask for an "unusual" lead.  Come along on the 19th to find out how it works!

Madeira Congress: 2nd - 9th February 2026
Several Wimbledon players made the trip to Madeira for the 2026 Spring Overseas Congress.  As well as some excursions to see the beautiful island, there was time for plenty of bridge.  Congratulations to Peter Breakell and John Osmond for their wins in the Pivot Teams and the Open Pairs.  It looks like a lovely holiday - book me in for next year!  Full results: https://www.ebu.co.uk/results/1904
Annette King: 1930 - 22 January 2026
We are sorry to let members know that Annette King, nee McGuick died on January 22, aged 95.  She was born in 1930 in Tramore, Ireland and had been in hospitals and homes in recent months.  Annette was always very thoughtful as a partner, playing regularly at Tuesday and Friday mornings since at least 2018 to March 2020.  Her partner Jon Crisp tried to get her online during covid and was successful at setting her up to attend regular virtual church services, but sadly online bridge was too much for her.  Annette returned to the club as soon as we reopened after Covid in July 2021 and played until July 2023.  Annette achieved the rank of 4 Star Master.  We send our condolences to her only son Neill King in Canada, family and friends.  Funeral arrangements will be posted when notified - likely to be near the end of March
Bochsler Cup Teams of Four Winners: Sunday 1st February 2026
Many congratulations to the team of Isabel Correia, June Middleton, Simon Prager and Henryk Klocek who won the Boschler Cup this year well ahead of the runners up (Lars Mcbride, John Edwards, Simon Cocheme and Elisabeth Bingham)

Best Behaviour at Bridge

Regular sessions at WBC are intended to provide a friendly and enjoyable environment to play the game of Bridge, and members should conduct themselves in the spirit of this aim.  If you feel you have been affected by anything at the table that is not in the spirit of the Best Behaviour at Bridge code then the director should be called immediately.  The other players should not retaliate or enter into an argument or discussion.  Please click here to see the BB@B code.  It is hoped that most incidents can be resolved at the time.  If any player wishes to make a formal complaint, they should do so at the time so that the director can complete the appropriate report, which must be signed by all parties.  Where the incident occurs outside a play session or, if occurring at a play session is, for a valid reason not reported to the director, it must be reported in writing (or via e-mail) to the Chair or Secretary of the Club within two weeks of the incident.
