NEWCOMERS' DUPLICATE SESSIONS RESTART THIS FRIDAY (AUGUST 6TH - 10AM) AT BRENTHAM.
In March we managed to bid and make 7NT with a combined point count of 25 HCP between our two hands. The hand was played 11 times at the Brentham club that evening and although everyone made all 13 tricks, there were 9 different contracts and we were the only pair to bid 7NT. I was sitting North and Rebecca South. After a strong 2D opening bid, the key bid was Rebecca's second response of 4D. I then used Blackwood and established we had all 4 aces. Fortunately the missing diamonds split 2-1 so that all 13 tricks rolled in. On checking with the editor of "English Bridge", we were told that we had set a new world record for bidding and making 7NT with the lowest combined point count. The hand is featured on page 9 of the August edition of the magazine - unfortunately there is a small error in the caption under our photo.
Newcomers' Duplicate sessions restart this Friday (August 6th -10am) at the Brentham club and will continue for the six weeks in August and early September (August 6th - Sept 10th).

Chris Bonser has played duplicate bridge at the Brentham Club in Ealing for twelve years where his regular partner is his wife, Rebecca. Chris is a firm believer that, whatever your standard of play, bridge is first and foremost a game to be enjoyed and he and his wife like an evening of social bridge with friends and a bottle of wine just as much as the club duplicate events.
Chris aims to bring this philosophy into his bridge teaching where classes are taught professionally (following the syllabus devised by the EBU) but in a relaxed and informal manner.
The picture was taken during Chris's 2007 holiday in Kenya when a year-old cheetah cub suddenly decided to climb on to the open roof of his safari vehicle
There is one more Earnley weekend this year - the " Develop your bidding" course on September 10-12.
