Well done to all those who took part in the Brentham Bridge club - Newcomers' Evening on Wednesday January 27. Full results can be found on the Brentham website www.brenthambridgeclub.org.uk
We played 20 hands in the evening and all coped remarkably well with the pace of play. We do hope you enjoyed the evening - if you found it difficult, it will be less nerve-racking next time. We would be delighted if some of you wanted to return soon for more experience of playing in an established bridge club with experienced players.
The Tuesday evening sessions are almost at full capacity with 28 players having enrolled for the term. I may be able to fit in extra players who have not joined for the term but in order to avoid a possible wasted journey, I recommend that you contact me in advance (tel 0208-995-5045) to check whether I can fit you in for a particular session.
The Spring term will begin for all classes week commencing January 11 and there will be a mid-term break week commencing March 1st. All classes will finish the week before Easter (w/c March 29). All classes run for 11 sessions except the Friday morning duplicate which also has no session on March 12 (Eastbourne w/e) and has 10 sessions. The following classes will be run:
Beginners Classes: - LIMITED VACANCIES ON MONDAYS
Improvers Classes - CLASSES FULL
Supervised Play

Many students enjoyed an Eastbourne bridge week-end in 2009. Dates have now been fixed for the 2010 week-ends and are as follows:
The emphasis is on competitive but friendly play. The cost for the Spring week-ends is £ 165 for 3 nights dinner, bed and breakfast including £ 30 bridge deposit. The cost is £ 170 for the latter two week-ends. This represents excellent value for money.
The hotel is on the seafront near the pier with the town centre just 5 minutes walk away. Many surrounding tourist attractions include Beachy Head.

Chris Bonser has played duplicate bridge at the Brentham Club in Ealing for ten years where his regular partner is his wife, Rebecca. Chris is a firm believer that, whatever your standard of play, bridge is first and foremost a game to be enjoyed and he and his wife like an evening of social bridge with friends and a bottle of wine just as much as the club duplicate events.
Chris aims to bring this philosophy into his bridge teaching where classes are taught professionally (following the syllabus devised by the EBU) but in a relaxed and informal manner.
The picture was taken during Chris's recent holiday in Kenya when a year-old cheetah cub suddenly decided to climb on to the open roof of his safari vehicle
In 2010 I shall again be running 4 teaching week-ends at Earnley College near Chichester. These are as follows:
