Minutes of the Meeting of West Bridgford Bridge Cub
held on Monday 30th June 2014

Present: Tim Anderson, Shiona Dawson (chair), Ian Dovey, Clive Goode,
               David Hazeldine, Val Savidge

1.  Membership

The current paid up membership is 41 with another 6 expected to rejoin. The intentions of 4 members are unknown. The treasurer to chase up. Action: ID

2.  Teams of 8

We need to decide how many teams of 8 to run in the forthcoming season. The current team captains (David, Shiona and Sheila) have all indicated that they are again willing to run a team. However, we need to be sure that we have enough members who want to participate. Shiona will circulate a list for members to sign up to on Mondays and will also E-Mail the membership. Action: SD

3.  Team Results for EBU Grading

ScoreBridge, the scoring system used by the club, does not yet support the latest EBU format for NGS grading of team matches. This doesn't affect the club so no action is required.

4.  Training DVDs

We already have series 1 of the Bernard Magee lectures. Series 2 and 3 are currently on offer at a reduced price of £70 for the 12 DVDs. These will be purchased to add to the club library. Action: CG

5.  Card Replacement

Many of our packs of playing cards are in poor condition and need replacing. Four dozen new packs will be ordered with the intention of swapping them more frequently. Action: DH

6.  Slow Play

There have been a few comments on the slowness of play recently (although we generally manage to finish on time). To avoid this becoming a real problem we need to give some guidance to directors.  Action: TA/SD

7. Arena Redevelopment

Nothing concrete is known concerning the redevelopment of the Arena, though staff have been told it will not happen until the end of the year. It could affect the club if the Arena is closed for a period. We need to keep a watching brief on this. Action: DH

8.  Cups and Prizes

The club competitions' cups have yet to be engraved. Ian has some of the cups which will be passed to David who will organise the engraving. Action ID/DH

9.  Club Competition Dates

The following dates have been proposed for the club competitions:

Summer Competition: 4th August 2014
Winter Competition:    First Monday of the month (Sept 2014 – April 2015)
Aggregate Pairs:         October 20th 2014
Scratch Pairs:              January 19th 2015
Ladies v Gents:           February 11th or 18th 2015 (18th for preference) DH to check Bradmore availability

The competitions are held on a normal Monday club night except the “Ladies v Gents” which will be at Bradmore on a Wednesday.

The web-site will be updated to include these details (and the current winners).

10. Club Contact Card

A new contact card will be printed at the end of July when all the remaining membership issues should have been resolved. Action: ID

11. Club Store Cupboard

The store cupboard will be tidied up and anything not of use disposed of. Action: DH
