Duplicate Bridge for All From Newcomers to Grand Masters

The Club was established in 1935 when it was one of the first Duplicate Bridge clubs in the country. It provides events and facilities for all skill levels from newcomers to internationals. Facilities are available for the disabled.

Visitors are welcome to play in our regular Duplicate Sessions.

If you are a beginner or improver, we have Tuition and schemes to give a gentle introduction to Duplicate Bridge.

Regular Bridge events:

  • Duplicate pairs are held most weekday evenings with results counting towards the Annual Ladders.
  • Regular pairs events on Monday and Wednesday evenings are open to all but slanted towards the more experienced.
  • Tuesday evenings are for the less experienced and for debutants to bridge. The events enable them to add progressively to their knowledge so that it is an easy step to graduate to other evenings.
  • Monday and Wednesdays mornings are ordinary duplicates and Thursday mornings are for those who would like to play without competing against highly ranked players.
  • Thursday evenings are slighty restricted in bidding conventions and would suit those wishing to gain experience to move on to Mondays and Wednesdays.
  • Friday mornings are for workshops and post-mortem pairs for those who wish to develop their game.
  • Alternate Friday afternoons are a Chicago and Cake session.   Open to visitors as well as members.   Come as a pair or in a foursome.   Tea/Coffee supplied.   Volunteers take turns to bring cakes. A partnership desk is available.
  • Alternate Wednesday afternoons and alternate Saturday mornings is Supervised Play, where you can get some over the shoulder friendly advice at a session that is not run as a competition.
  • Special events for club trophies are held on Friday evenings.
  • The Club is the venue for many of the County competitions on Fridays and Sundays.
  • Sundays are for major events and the home venue for Hertfordshire in the Eastern Counties League. The club is now the venue for two national events held  by the English Bridge Union.

Visitors are welcome to all regular events but not trophy events. Visit the club's website for partnership desk details. Please call to check if you intend to visit.

For all events hands are dealt by computer and a copy of the hands is available at the end of each event to take home for analysis. All events are scored on bridgemate.

Start times:

  • Monday to Friday evenings 7.30pm and Bank Holidays 5.00pm
  • All morning sessions at 10.00ams

From September to April each year the club runs Bridge classes on:

  • Tuesday and Thursday evenings  in the Trackside Bar adjacent to the Bridge Centre
