Supervised Play at Welwyn Garden City Bridge Club

Have you been playing bridge between one and two years?

Supervised play is aimed at players who have started and/or completed a beginners’ bridge class (year one) and are moving to or have completed a beginners’ continuation class (year two). Even if you haven’t been to these classes but you have been playing a couple of years, and are playing basic bidding systems, then supervised play may be just what you’re looking for.

Would you like some friendly over the shoulder advice during a gentle practice bridge session?

During a supervised play session you will sit at a table of four players and the boards will rotate between tables. The session is not run as a competition, so you can relax and practise your bridge whilst receiving some over the shoulder advice from the tutor.

You don’t need to attend with a partner.

Because this session isn’t run like a normal duplicate pairs session we can have tables of three or five people and you just swap round so you each get to play. Therefore, you don’t need to attend with a partner. However, it’s a nice place to meet other like-minded players of a similar standard where you can meet potential bridge partners, new friends for social games etc.

At the end of the session

... you will receive a printout of the hands with more information available on the club website. The hands that you play will be hands from one of the club’s newcomer appropriate sessions (probably played in the last week). This means there will be a computer generated record of the hands, which you can take away with you at the end and review. The tutor will tell you which session the hands are from and you can look up the results online if you wish. This way you can develop your game by comparing your results with the players at that session. There is the additional facility on the club website to replay the hand, so you can see how to make a contract or extra tricks etc. Your tutor can explain more about these facilities at the supervised play session. Just ask if you’re interested.

Cost per session just £5 per person. Payable on the day. Just turn up and play. No need to book in advance or pay anything at Gosling Sports Park reception.

The sessions will run:

Alternate Wednesday afternoons 2pm-5pm starting 27th July 2016 and
Alternate Saturday mornings 10am-1pm starting 6th August 2016.
