Welcome to Welsh Women's Bridge
Welcome !

This is the home of the Welsh Womens Bridge Squad.

In order to rekindle enthusiasm and raise the standard of Welsh women’s bridge at National and International level, this 'Club' has been set up to coordinate events and training sessions specifically aimed at developing the Women's team.

Any female Welsh bridge player who is interested in this and is at least at area standard and above, or otherwise show promise and ambition has been invited to become a member of this Club. (If you feel you fit the bill and have not yet been invited to join, then please get in touch with our organiser Gilly, via the contact page.)

We want to try out new ideas, which will hopefully stimulate more interest than previous training methods and create a more supportive environment and to encourage representation in higher level events, which are routine for the other home nations.

We won the Lady Milne last year and have given strong performances in previous years, but we need to capitalise on our success, and develop and expand our squad of players. Some of our aims are:

  • Playing together in selected events throughout the year in anticipation of next year’s Lady Milne and of future International events - but also to have fun!
  • Entering at least one team in higher level events such as the Premier League/Gold Cup/Spring Fours, plus local competitions and re-establishing the women’s teams etc.
  • Adopting mentors for teams, pairs or individuals (online training is particularly useful given our geographical distribution)
  • Using the Internet for communication, sharing experiences and tips, teaching and mentoring; and to practise both play and bidding on BBO (BridgeBase Online).
  • Playing in friendly matches against other countries.  Talks have already started with Ireland and England, who are very happy to help under the right circumstances.
  • Drawing on the skills of the many people who have so kindly helped in the past, such as Pat Shields, Julian Pottage, Adrian Thomas and more.
