Competition Rules

For all Competitions:

  

  1. Qualifying events include  - 
    1. any duplicate pairs session (inc. Simuls) on either a Tuesday or Friday.
  2. Non Qualifying events  - 
    1. are those with less than 22 boards in play (regardless of the number of boards actually played),
    2. with less than 5 tables, or
    3. special events such as the AGM, Christmas Party, Open Evening, Improvers Graduation evening and Play with an Expert (the ineligibility of such events will be announced at the start of play).
  3. To qualify, both members of the partnership must be members of the club at the time of play (you will not qualify if your membership has lapsed due to non payment of subs.)
  4. The Competition Secretary will be responsible for clarifying any questions and reporting on results of all club competitions. In the event of a tie for any award, the procedures set out in the EBU White Book for tie-splitting will be used. Ties for qualification to HBA events will be resolved in accordance with the rules of the HBA. The Competition Secretary's decision on the interpretation of these rules will be final.

Individual Championship

(David Earle Cup)

 

 

  1. Players can participate with as many different partners as they wish, but a minimum of at least eight sessions each with a different partner will be required to be eligible for the trophy at the end of the season.
  2. Results on any qualifying duplicate pairs evening count towards both the Mens/Ladies Pairs and the Individual Championship.
  3. The winner will be determined as the individual with the highest average % score over at least eight sessions with different partners. The highest % score with each different partner will be used and if a player has more than eight partners then the scores from the best eight partnerships will be used. All other scores will be discarded.
  4. There will be three separate awards within the Individual Championship available to players of differing standards:
    1. Open (David Earle Cup) - Open to all players.
    2. Intermediate - Participants must rank no more than 5* Prem Master (<30,000 MP, > 10 & <25 GP ) as at Feb 1st 2017.
    3. Cadet - Participants must have less than 5000 Masterpoints as at Feb 1st 2017.
  5. If the winner of the Open award  would also qualify as the winner of the Intermediate or Cadet awards , or if the winner of the Intermediate award  would also qualify as the winner of the Cadet award  then in each case the award for those categories will be made to the next highest eligible player.

Bindloss Cup

Teams

 A single session multiple teams of four event. The winning team shall be the team with the highest net IMP score.

Mens Pairs (Peter Emery Cup)  & Ladies Pairs (Marjorie Forbes-Simpson Cup)

 

  1.  
  1. You must play with a partner of the same gender to enter.
  2. Players can participate with as many different partners as they wish, but a minimum of at least ten sessions (with the same partner) will be required to be eligible for the trophy at the end of the season.
  3. Results on any qualifying duplicate pairs evening count towards both the Mens/Ladies Pairs and the Individual Championship.
  4. The winning pair will be determined as the pair (for each of the categories men/ladies) with the highest average % score over at least ten sessions (ie if pairs play more than 10 times together, then the lowest scores will be eliminated).
  5. Scores will be tracked and reported through the club website.

Open Pairs

  1. This event  will be played over separate four sessions. A Pair must play in at least three sessions to be eligible for the Trophy. If a Pair plays in all four sessions, then the lowest score will be dropped.
  2. The Open Pairs Cup will be awarded to the Pair with the highest average of their three best scores 
  3. The Bobby Brown Award will be made to the Pair (both players being below the rank of Regional Master as at 1st Feb 2017) with the highest average of their three best scores.
  4. The top two pairs will be invited to represent WBBC at the HBA Club Winners Cup.

Mixed Pairs

  1. This is a single session duplicate pairs event for partnerships in which one partner is male and the other female. 
  2.  All male or all female partnerships may also participate in the event at the discretion of the Director, but are not eligible to receive the award. If space is limited, then priority will be given to Mixed Pairs. The event will be scored across the whole field.

Grant Cup

  1. The cup is awarded to the pair who achieve the highest % score in a single Qualifying duplicate pairs session within the Calendar year.
