| Life Membership for Barry Robinson |
 At the recent Annual General Meeting, Barry Robinson was elected to be the club's first Life Member. The committee's resolution was carried unanimously and a spontaneous outbreak of applause demonstrated the high esteem in which Barry is held by the membership.
Barry was a driving force in the foundation of the club and was club chairman for the first seven years of it's existence. He remains a very active committee member and a tireless worker for the club.

Bridgemates
Wardown has invested in Bridgemate equipment to provide instant results at all club events. The equipment was used for the first time on Thursday 26 July and no problems have been encountered so far. |

Kitchen
The Sports Club has arranged to have the Wardown Pavilion kitchen totally refurbished starting in August 2007. This will be a major benefit for the Bridge Club which has agreed to make a significant contribution towards the cost.

| June Handicap Competition Result |
Congratulations to Bharat Sanghrajka on winning our first monthly handicap competition. Bharat had 2 huge scores playing with different partners to pip joint runners up Eileen Reid and Andy Stockley. Prizes were presented to these three members before play on Thursday 5 July.

| Chesters Win Champions' Trophy |
Angela & Richard Chester won the Bedfordshire Champions' Trophy (formerly the Restricted Pairs) at Wilstead on Thursday. In a field of 31 pairs they recorded 65.5% to win by 1%. Other good performances by Wardown players were Monica Lucy & Les Calver 3rd with 60.3%, Bertie Shiebert & Bill Stanley 7th with 55.9% and Peter Dredge & Tony Drakard 14th with 52.4%.

| County Pairs |
The Bedfordshire County Pairs Championship was won by the Milton Keynes pairing of Alan Oddie & Ron Davis. However in a fine result for Wardown, Bill Stanley & Bertie Shiebert finished second with David Harris & Jon Williams third and Angela & Richard Chester 4th.
The first three pairs qualify to represent Bedfordshire in the Corwen Trophies - the national inter-county pairs championship. However Bertie has decided against competing so Angela & Richard will substitute. Good luck to all the Bedfordshire pairs.

It has come to light that the copy of the constitution on the web site was the old version prior to the revision adopted at the AGM in August 2005. This has new been rectified and the current constitution can be found under the Information menu.

| Latest County Results |
Congratulations to Tony Drakard & Peter Dredge and Peter Scott & Colin O'Hara who finished joint second in the BBA One Star Pairs final on Thursday 22 February. Close behind in fourth place were Val Jarrett & Valerie Eaton while Trevor & Marilyn Tucker also performed creditably in their first county event.
The National Pairs heat run at the same time was won comfortably by David Harris & Jon Williams with 66%. Angela & Richard Chester were equal second with 56% but lost out on the second qualifying place to Chris Parkin & Val Lawson on a split tie.

The Annual Dinner was held at South Beds Golf Club on Thursday 2nd November with 44 members in attendance. A very enjoyable meal was followed by presentation of the Club's annual awards for 2005 / 2006 and 12 boards of bridge.

| Harris and Williams win Bedfordshire Restricted Pairs |
Congratulationsto David Harris & Jon Williams who won the county Restricted Pairs on Thursday night with a score of 66% in a field of 27 pairs. In a clean sweep for Wardown, Bill Stanley & Barry Parkins were 2nd with 62% and Angela & Richard Chester were 3rd with 60%.

Graham Isaac is leaving the area to take up a new job. Graham has been a tireless worker for Wardown and the committee would like to thank him for all his efforts and wish him every success in his new position.
Lueen Francis has agreed to take over the role of secretary with immediate effect. |

| Bertie Shiebert and Peter Scott win county Seniors Pairs |
|
Congratulations to Bertie and Peter on their win in theBedfordshire Seniors Pairs on Thursday 13th April. They finished wellclear of the 10 table field with 62.4%.
Having won this event in the afternoon, the ageless Bertie proceeded to Wardownin the evening to partner Bill Stanley and won again with 69.8%. |

| Bedfordshire County Pairs |
The County Pairs Final on Sunday 2nd April was won easily by County Chairman Ron Davis and his partner Alan Oddie. Highest finishers of the Wardown contingent were Angela & Richard Chester in fourth place with David Harris & Jon Williams fifth.
In the afternoon semi-final David and Jon had qualified in second place with the Chesters and the Audsleys scraping into the last two qualifying positions. |

| Faces from the Past |
Last Monday we were very pleased to welcome former Luton players Jan and David Holland to the club on a flying visit from their home in Turkey. They are now only occasional players but had a very good session finishing in second place. A few days later we received the following very kind message. We are clearly doing something right!
Dear Chairman
David & I would like to thank all at Wardown Club last Monday for the lovely welcome we recieved. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves meeting old friends & new opponents, the bridge was pretty good too.
Although we rarely come back to the UK, we will certainly visit you again. It is good to see that bridge is still flourishing in Bedfordshire.

| Wardown Wins County Teams of 8 |
Congratulations to the Wardown team which won the annual Bedfordshire Inter-Club Teams of 8 competition ahead of 7 other teams on January 12th, 2006.
The team won by the comfortable margin of 17 imps from a very strong Milton Keynes team in second place and has qualified to represent Bedfordshire in the regional final of the Garden Cities Trophy (the national Teams of 8 Championship) on Saturday May 20th.
The members of the successful team were David Harris and Bertie Shiebert, Bill Stanley and Barry Parkins, Chris Parkin and Peter Scott, Angela and Richard Chester.
