Welcome

If you live near Wantage and enjoy bridge, why not give duplicate bridge a try?  We are a friendly club and welcome visitors.

Come along to our club sessions on Thursday evenings by 7.20 pm for a  prompt 7.30 pm start.  We also hold Wednesday afternoon sessions for gentle duplicate - see section further down for details.

Teams evenings are the first Thursday of each month except April and October  (which will be the second Thursday) when you will need to come along as a team of 4.

We award Master Points for all our competitions, participate in the EBU and some charity Simultaneous Pairs events .

We play in the Oxfordshire Team of Eight Wessex League.

All club events are restricted to level 4 conventions.

If you are looking for a partner email Avis Roberts  at avis.roberts@ntlworld.com who will let other members know who will respond if they are available

Will players please be seated by 7.20pm as it will not  be possible for anyone arriving after that time to be accommodated.

If you are delayed en route please ring 01235 769688

New Laws

From Thursday 14 September play at Wantage will be under the latest revision of the Laws.  As an EBU information leaflet says "there are no changes to the mechanics or scoring of the game, so you can still play your familiar game and allow the Director to deal with any irregularities that arise".  A summary of all the changes is on the OBA website http://www.oxfordshirebridge.co.uk/images/laws-2017%20summary%20of%20changes.pdf ; and an explanation of the changes affecting claims and bids out of turn/insufficient bids can be found by clicking on the Information button at left.

There are also changes to  the Blue and White books (about conventions).  The main changes are the rules for a strong opening bid, and "short" minor opening bids. Further information can be found by clicking on the Information button at left.

The August EBU magazine has an article on these changes (pages 44- 46)."

Beginners Bridge Classes

Gaye Kyle will be starting a new bridge beginners course on Wednesday afternoons starting on 4th October. Please tell friends who may be interested. See here for details.

Visitors

Wantage Bridge Club offers a warm welcome to visitors. If more players arrive than we have capacity for, our policy would be to give priority to our members, and this might lead to visitors being turned away. To date, this has never happened.

Pairs Competition

At the meeting on 1st February the Committee agreed to an amendment to the rules of the Pairs Competition. Starting with the 2017 competition, to qualify pairs must play at least 20 times in the year, and their best 20 scores will count i.e. those playing more than 20 times will be able to drop their lowest scores.

Teams 2017

In response to popular demand the 2017 teams competition will take place each month usually on the first Thursday except for April and October when it will be on the second Thursday (Due to clash with Sims). To allow some flexibility teams may nominate up to six players . The amended rules for the competition are on the website.. Additional teams can still enter the competition..
