We take pride in making all our visitors welcome - and we were delighted to have had some from both near and far over the last couple of months. The recent highlight was the visit of nine-year-olds Ethan Tremble and Daniel Carder, from Danny's class in Featherstone - they played with a confidence and style that impressed us all, and we hope to see them again soon. Joan Shaw (Barrow in Furness) and Marie Flanagan (Bann, County Mayo) were an irrepressible pair who brightened up both the Monday and Thursday session at each end of the EBU Northeren Midweek Congress, and it was a pleasure to meet Clyde Mallinson (South Africa) again, even though some years have passed since he was last with us.
And that's not to mention Alan Jones and Bob Brown, from local clubs - it was good to see you both again.
Welcome to you all!
Playing with better players is a great way to improve your bridge..... but if they are of a much better standard it can be hard work at times, as some of our players in the EBU Northern Midweek Congress found (see across).
However, YCBA have now introduced a 'Play without the Experts' competition, open only to those with an NGS grading of Jack or below, and the first staging was at York Bridge Club on Sunday 24 July.
Wakefield fielded three pairs, and Pat and Chris Maynard finished a very creditable third overall.
Congratulations to them!
