Unit 216 Board Meeting, February 24, 2020

Present:  Carolyn Sabroske, Carolyn Miller, Sally Meixner, Jean Friedrich, Norma Comp, Irene Boyd, Kate Reynolds,

Absent:  Kristin Welter, Barb Maas, Denise Dornbier, Tom Olsson, Bonni Newton

President Carolyn Sabroske called the meeting to order. 

Treasurer’s Report:  Given by Carolyn Miller.  Approved.

Education Report:  Carolyn received a report from Bonni Newton who was unable to attend the meeting in person.  Kathi Kellen’s 8-week beginning bridge class started 1/19 and has 16-18 people attending.  Rich Newell will offer a class on Lebensohl on 3/17.  Bonni is planning an evening class for beginners to begin in May or June.

Bridgemates:  The Unit will be purchasing 40 Bridgemates along with the software required to use them. The Corporation has agreed to contribute half the cost up to $3000 toward this purchase.

July 31-Aug 2           Non-Life Master Regional

Sept 10-13                Cornbelt Sectional

Spring Festival:  Ann Olsson and Ewa Pratt are the Tournament Chairs, Kathi Kellen and Barb Covert are in charge of partnerships. The flyer is available on the ACBL website: Des Moines Spring Festival Bridge Sectional

NLM Regional:  Kristin will provide a report when she returns.

Dates for Annual Meeting, Christmas Party and Medallion Party:

Friday, Oct 9            Annual Meeting (board elections to be held the prior week)

Friday, Dec 4            Christmas Party

Saturday, June 6     Medallion Party

Dealing Machine Maintenance:  The dealing machine requires periodic maintenance/cleaning which hasn’t been done for approximately 5 years.  The board discussed potential costs and that this would require the machine to be shipped to another location and be gone for approximately one week. Kate moved to get a current estimate for the costs and if less than $500, we authorize the expense.  Irene seconded. Motion passed.

Kate moved to adjourn, Irene seconded.  Next meeting is Thursday, May 14.
