Malcolm Judge

It is with great sadness that we have learned that Malcolm Judge died peacefully yesterday afternoon after a short illness. He had been a member of Tyler Hill and Pilgrims Bridge Club, along with other clubs in the district, since its inception in 1991.

He played regularly with both John and Margery Rumbelow, Ken Wheeler, Maria Studzienska, Moira Holt, Stan Adamson, Bob Stockbridge, Mary Skelton, and won many cups and trophies at the bridge table in all the clubs in the area

F2FBridge

After consulting our members, offering them a trial opportunity to play in the afternoon, the committee has decided not to return to face-to-face bridge for the time being.

We are remaining online on Tuesday nights.

Our membership has increased very significantly since lockdown - we now have players in Rugby, Coventry, Stratford Upon Avon and London who join us regularly... the attraction of f2f has dwindled for many.

The situation will be reviewed on a regular basis and any updates will be posted on this website.

Message from Doreen McVey

Nicky Adamson has been asked by Doreen McVey to pass on to the bridge players her thanks for all the kind words, cards and letters she has received from so many about her late husband Dave.

Very sad news about the recent loss at the weekend of one of our members, Dave McVey. We shall be holding a minutes silence for him at the start of our Tuesday evening game this week and be publishing more about Dave's involvement in the game + his many achievements in our next members Newsletter. He won over 30 Kent Cups between 1976 and 2019 in addition to our Men’s Pairs in 2019. He was a longstanding member of both Pilgrims Bridge Club as well as ours and in all activity always displayed great sportsmanship and respect to his opponents. Many of our members will have known Dave with great fondness for a very long period and we all extend our condolences to his family.

Prize presententations at the club's AGM on 9th April 2019 in the Tyler Hill Memorial Hall (currently undergoing internal refurbishment) were given by Simon Westerman. the new Chairman. Simon takes over from Margaret Crawley who has just retired after seven years of dedicated service. Both Nicky Adamson (also retiring, handing over the responsibility of 'Treasurer' to Louise Preston) and Margaret Crawley were given surprise envelopes ("for the garden") as tokens of the club's appreciation of all their hard work and commitment over the years. Unfortunately, apart from the 'Handicap Pairs' (Janet Batson & Margaret Crawley) and the 'Ladies Pairs' (Nicky Adamson & Margaret Crawley), not all winners were able to be present at the AGM to accept their prizes: Ron Davis was without his partner David McVey ('Mens Pairs'), Margery Rumbelow was missing her partner Ken Wheeler ('Mixed Pairs') and neither Martin Hammer nor his partner John Williams could take home their 'Club Championship' cup.
