Tudor Bridge Club AGM Thursday 21st March

TUESDAY BRIDGE

At the AGM held on Thursday 21st March, a motion was carried by an overwhelming majority to treat Tuesday bridge sessions the same as Thursday. This will mean that all Tuesday sessions will attract table money of £4 to NON Tudor members, and all results will be uploaded to the EBU, as they are on Thursdays.

About the Club
About the Club

Welcome to the Tudor Bridge Club web site. The club meets every Tuesday and Thursday at the Town Hall in Chipping Sodbury to play Duplicate Bridge.  Play starts at 7.15pm. Visitors are always welcome and a partner can usually be found if required. Anyone requiring a partner should contact the Club Secretary Maureen Gale on 01454 314976 or e-mail mgale@dsl.pipex.com. Table money is £3 for Members and £4 for Non-members.  The annual membership charge is just £6 per person.

Why the name 'Tudor'?

In  January 1984, Malcolm Hayward,  who was the Conservative Agent for the Chipping Sodbury area, advertised in the local Gazette that he would be starting to run a Bridge Club at the Town Hall once a week, all standards accepted.  It was a success right from the start.

Sadly Malcolm died of cancer in 1994.  Malcolm was a lovely placid person and very popular - it was indeed a sad day when he died.  Each year around June time we hold an event in memory of Malcolm and the club makes generous donations to CLIC and Bristol Oncology – his favourite charities.

From when Malcolm started the Club with about a dozen Members the Club has grown over the years to a Membership of around 100.   Suffice it to say that at our 21st Birthday Party in 2005 there were no less that 5 Founder Members present !  All 21 years older but still devotees of Tudor Bridge Club.

So why are we called TUDOR? – well, as stated, Malcolm was the Conservative Agent for this area and worked out of TUDOR HOUSE in Chipping Sodbury – and this is the name he gave to the Club.
