LET ME TELL YOU A LITTLE ABOUT THE HOPE FOUNDATION. THE HOPE FOUNDATION IS DEDICATED ENTIRELY TO IMMEDIATE AND LASTING CHANGE TO THE LIVES OF CHILDREN LIVING ON THE STREETS AND SLUMS OF KOLKATA (CALCUTTA). THEY ARE AMONGST THE MOST UNDERPRIVILEGED IN INDIA.
THE HOPE FOUNDATION FUNDS 60 PROJECTS IN KOLKATA IN AREAS OF EDUCATION, HEALTHCARE, PROTECTION, NUTRITION, TRAINING, COUNSELLING AND HUMAN RIGHTS ADVOCACY. http://www.hopechild.org
IT WAS IN 1999 THAT MAUREEN FORREST AND HER DAUGHTER VISITED CALCUTTA, WHAT STRUCK THEM MOST WAS THE SHEER HOPELESSNESS, EXPLOITATION AND ABJECT POVERTY THAT THEY WITNESSED: IT HAD A PROFOUND AND LASTING EFFECT ON THEM. IT WAS THEN THAT SHE, MAUREEN, PLEDGED TO HELP THE CHILDREN OF THE CITY, BY CREATING THE HOPE FOUNDATION.
MAUREEN AND HOPE HAVE RESPONDED TO MANY RECENT DISASTERS, THE EARTHQUAKE IN GUJARAT, THE ASIAN TSUNAMI, TAKING CARE OF INITIAL NEEDS, AND THEN WORKING IN THE LONGER TERM TO RE-BUILD LIVELIHOODS AND HOMES.
THE HOPE FOUNDATION PROTECTION PROJECT RESPONDS TO VIOLENCE, ABUSE AND TAKES ACTION TO PREVENT CHILD TRAFFICKING. HOPE WITH THEIR PARTNERS WORK TO OFFER ALTERNATIVES TO CHILD LABOUR, SO CHILDREN HAVE TIME TO BE CHILDREN, TO HAVE A CHILDHOOD.
50P IS ALL IT TAKES TO FEED A CHILD IN INDIA FOR A DAY. A SIMPLE IDEA THAT HAS WORKED HAS BEEN SIMPLY THIS: A PUB, BAR, OR A RESTAURANT ADD AN OPTIONAL DONATION OF 50P PER DINER TO A BILL. THIS 50P CONTRIBUTES TO THE CHILDREN?S EDUCATION AND HELPS THEM ACCESS ESSENTIAL HEALTH CARE SERVICES. THIS STRAND OF REVENUE PLAYS A HUGE AND VITAL ROLE IN THE LIVES OF THESE CHILDREN.
IN ORDER TO HELP RAISE FUNDS TO SUPPORT THE WORK THAT HOPE DOES, I WILL BE TAKING PART IN A TREK BETWEEN THE 5TH - 20TH NOVEMBER 2016. I WILL BE WALKING IN THE ENVIRONS OF PELLING, SIKKIM, ON THE NEPAL-TIBET BORDERS AND THE AREA AROUND THE MOUNTAIN TOWN OF KATIMPONG, WEST BENGAL.
ALTHOUGH I WILL BE SELF FUNDING THE COST OF MY TREK I AM SEEKING SPONSORS TO HELP RAISE FUNDS TO GIVE TO THE HOPE FOUNDATION TO HELP FUND THEIR VITAL WORK.
THIS WILL BE MY SECOND VISIT TO INDIA ON BEHALF OF HOPE, LAST YEAR I SPENT A MONTH VOLUNTEERING AS A HELPER IN KOLKATA FOR HOPE, SO I KNOW JUST HOW DESPERATELY THEY NEED FUNDS TO KEEP THEIR WORK GOING.
THIS IS THE REASON FOR THIS BRIDGE TOURNAMENT TODAY. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT.

| About the Torrevieja U3A bridge Club |
The Torrevieja Bridge Club is a group activity within the Torrevieja U3A. We meet on Wednesday morning (10:00 am) and Sunday evenings (7:00 pm) for Duplicate Bridge. We use BridgeMates for instant scoring. This is primarily a social club and play, broadly, within English Bridge Union (E.B.U.) guidelines and Laws though it is NOT affiliated to the E.B.U.
A group also meet on Tuesday mornings (10:00 am) for those who prefer a more social and relaxed session. BridgeMates are still used for scoring but the general atmosphere is inclined towards easier, less pressurised and slighlty slower play, and should suit those who prefer to socialise and discuss hands and bidding points as they go along.

| Best Behaviour |
 |
Bridge is an extremely enjoyable game. Courteous behaviour is an exceptionally important part of that enjoyment. This guide serves as a brief reminder of how to behave at the bridge table. We are sure that all players naturally follow this code of conduct but there are times when concentration and pressure can take their toll and it is for these situations that we issue this as a reminder.
Greet others in a friendly manner prior to start of play on each round. Be a good "host" or "guest" at the table. Fill in your convention card completely and make it readily available to your opponents.. Make bridge enjoyable for yourself, partner and opponents. Give credit when opponents make a good bid or play. Take care of your personal grooming. Ensure that your mobile phone is turned off. Enjoy the company as well as the game.
Remember that it is rude to criticise your partner or opponents in public, to be less than polite at the table, to gloat over good results or object to a call for the tournament director or to dispute or argue about a director’s ruling.
| Please call the director if you think you may have been affected by bad behaviour. You will be helping others as well as yourselves | As in all games that are governed by rules and regulations, bad behaviour will be penalised .....
If a player at the table behaves in an unacceptable manner, the director should be called immediately. Annoying behaviour, embarrassing remarks, or any other conduct which might interfere with the enjoyment of the game is specifically prohibited by Law 74A. Law 91A gives the director the authority to assess disciplinary penalties. This can include immediate disciplinary board penalties, and if a future violation is incurred at the same event, disqualification from future competition in that event. The guilty party or parties will be deemed not to have played in that event. No masterpoints will be awarded and no refunds received. Any further violations may result in a disciplinary hearing where the player(s) future participation in tournaments will be considered. A Best Behaviour Report Form shall be available for players to report incidents which occur away from the table; and for directors to document complaints and action taken.
..... enjoy your game!
With thanks to the ACBL for the work they have done in this area.
