Surrey Teachers Win EBU Awards
Alec Salisbury Award

We’re proud to say that Amy Huber (second from left), former teacher at Carshalton High School for Girls, has won this year’s Alec Salisbury Award from the EBU. The award celebrates those who make a significant contribution to schools bridge.
Amy started and strongly championed the Carshalton HSG bridge club, both within the school and in the local community. Working with bridge teacher Christine Atwood (fourth from left), the club began with Minibridge and then moved on to duplicate, with the school twice taking part in the All Surrey Schools Event. She also encouraged her pupils to join local bridge clubs, and organised a visit to the House of Lords, meeting Lord Skelmersdale and the All Party Parliamentary Group for Bridge.

Although Amy has now emigrated to the US, the club continues under the guidance of her colleague Mark Alletson, with bridge teacher Nigel Jones. Her pupils collected the award on Amy’s behalf from EBU Chairman, Jeremy Dhondy (above).

John Armstrong Award

Sarah O'Connor was announced as the winner of the 2015 John Armstrong Award at the Summer Meeting in Brighton in August. She was coordinator and coach of the newly established England Under-15 team. She set up the squad, and organised training weekends, helping to develop them from being inexperienced players in to a team which finished 4th in the European Championships in Norway less than six months later. This was alongside her 'proper job' as a teacher at St Paul's Girls' School, where she has also established a bridge club.
