Our next Social is on Saturday 16th March, commencing at 130pm with fish & chips to follow!

Note that there is no bridge on Tuesday 19th March due to the Institute AGM taking place.

We will play bridge on the evening of Wednesday 20th March instead.

Stourbridge Institute Bridge Association

Minutes of Committee Meeting 8th November 2023

Present: Linda Wright, Georgina Lineker, James Taylor,

Margaret Hanson, Fiona Hahn

Apologies: Glo Jackson, Gavin Tringham

Minutes of the Committee Meeting of 6th September 2023 were approved online.

Chairman’s Report

  • Teams on 07.11.2023 went very well with 7 teams.
  • Replacement of Bridgemate: Peter provided the costs of changing to tablets ca. 1.300. At the present as long as the Bridgemate units are still working, change would be too expensive and couldn’t be justified to the SI.
  • The Social Bridge event on Saturday September 30th was well attended with 13 pairs and went well. Next time the event should start at 1.30pm as SI closes at 6pm.
  • Rotas: Directors: Pauline and Barry are no longer available as directors. Margaret away in Jan-Mar 2024. Gavin often away too. Angela will be included in new rotas. Enough scorers. New rotas for directors and scorers (LW) and on website (JT)

Secretary’s Report

  • Members lists/records a list of members and their BM numbers completed and in the file.
  • Correction slips printed (but more copies needed JT)

Treasurer’s Report       

  • Financial Report – Up to date, SI and EBU paid.

Media Co-ordinator’s Report

  • Our website – An update is needed to include Christmas party and take off teaching for beginners (JT)

Rota Co-Ordinator’s Report

  • Rotas are in place to the end of January.
  • Angela Cowdry to direct, Fiona Hahn being trained as scorer.

Competitions Secretary’s Report

  • Roving Philipps event disappointing as only 1 pair from Worcester.
  • Order of Merit and Honours – no news
  • Upcoming events; Christmas party on 15th December. Mince pies/wine (MH/GL) and Raffle (GJ/FH). Announce raffle prizes. Start 6:30pm Wine/pies and 7.15pm Bridge. Notice (JT)
  • Director’s Report: Need to make the following announcements at start of bridge sessions.
    • Note own pair number and who you are following
    • Leave bidding cards out until the lead card is down
    • Alerting
    • All cards should be left on the table until the final contract is agreed.

Co-ordinator’s Report

  • A4 paper needed (MH)
