A host (or host pair for teams events) will be available on most Tuesday & Friday evenings for players without a partner. Check on the calendar section for events where no host has been nominated.

If you will be absent when it is your turn on one of the rotas please arrange to swap with another member or arrange a substitute.

  Championship Pairs

The Club Champion Pairs is usually determined at a two-session event, held on a Saturday in November.

Following the vote at the 2016 AGM, this event will run providing that at least 6 pairs enter. In the event of insufficient entries it will not be rescheduled.

Entry list will be posted on the club notice board approximately 6 weeks beforehand.

The date for the 2016 event will be confirmed shortly.

  Evening Order of Merit

This competition will be based on partnership records over the full calendar year. Only events played with 3.5 tables or more will be included

To qualify for the competition, a specific partnership will need to have competed in a minimum of 25 SBC evening pairs events excluding the AGM (unless at least 21 boards are played by all players), Championship Pairs, Christmas Party,  and Swiss pairs events.

  Improvers Cup

This competition will be based on an individuals record over the full calendar year. Only events played with 3.5 tables or more will be included. The winner will be the player whose average percentage has improved by the greatest amount from one year to the next.

To qualify for the competition, an individual will need to have competed in a minimum of 20 SBC pairs events in each year, excluding the AGM (unless at least 21 boards are played), Christmas Party and Swiss pairs events.

  Championship Events - General Rules

Championship Events

 Championship events are sponsored by Stourbridge Institute and Social Club and are open only to current members of the Institute who have been members for 6 months or have played in 6 club events (Stourbridge Bridge Club or Stourbridge Institute Bridge Section) during the preceding 6 months. The championship events are:

Order of Merit (Evening and Afternoon) Championship

Championship Pairs

Individual Championship

Ladies Championship Pairs

Gentlemens Championship Pairs

Mixed and Flitch Pairs Championship

Teams Championship

Improvers Cup

*Entry to these eventsmay be subject to additional qualification criteria as shown below

  Individual Championships

This event will now be a one-off event, open to all members, usually held in February each year, with no prior qualification.

For ease of organisation, an entry list will be posted on the club noticeboard several weeks in advance.

Please note that players entering the event must have renewed their Institute membership to be eligible to play in the final event.

  Afternoon Order of Merit

This competition will be based on partnership records over the full calendar year.

To qualify for the competition, a specific partnership will need to have competed in a minimum of 20 SBC afternoon pairs events excluding the Championship Pairs Events. Only events played with 3.5 tables or more will be included

  Ladies and Mens Championship

The Ladies Championship and the Gentlemens' Championship are separate Pairs events .The events are usually run in parallel on the same evening.

  Mixed Pairs and Flitch Championships

The Mixed Pairs and Flitch Championship is run as a single event in which all pairs must be of both sexes. The winners are the Mixed Pairs Champions while the Flitch is won by the highest ranking married couple, other than the event winners.
