From September 2014, we have run Club Handicap competition once a month- usually the second Thursday of the month.

The handicaps are calculated using the scheme suggested by the CBAI.

First of all we calculated the average winning score for last season (2015/16) - this turns out to be 63.64 % for St Crispin's and is defined as the PAR score.

Next we calculated each member's average score for the season  , for example Helena McDarby had an average score with 52.93 %

The handicap is the difference between the PAR score and the member's average, rounded to nearest 0.5 % - in Helena's case this is 63.64 % - 52.93 % = 10.71 % rounded to 10.5 %

For your President, Kevin Clark, the calculation is 63.64 % - 55.13 % = 8.51 % rounded to 8.5 %

When playing in the handicap competition, the average of the two pairs is calculated and this is added to their gross score to give a net score. If Helena and Kevin play together their handicap is 10.5 % + 8.5 % divided by 2 = 9.5% and if they score 51% on the night, then their net score will be 51 % + 9.5 % = 60.5 %

If all the players on the night play to their average performance, then their handicaps would bring everyone to a net score of 63.64 %. This of course is most unlikely as some pairs will perform better than normal and others play below their norm for various reasons.
