History of St Colmcille's Bridge Club

St Colmcille’s Bridge Club began with a meeting in Paddy & Celine Maguire’s home on 26th September 1995.

Moya Shannon who taught bridge was there, as were Maureen Smith and Madeline Stewart.

Sam McKeag had been teaching Bridge in the Credit Union Building since 1990 and said it was time to form a club, and after some discussion it was decided to name it St Colmcille’s Bridge Club.

The 1st AGM of St Colmcille’s Bridge Club was held in Credit Union Buildings, Church View, Holywood on 3rd October 1995.

Chairman                                Paddy Maguire

Vice Chair                               Maureen Smith

Secretary                                Madeline Stewart

Treasurer                                Celine Maguire

There were 33 playing members present, many of whom still play today.

By 1996 the membership had risen to 57.

The Club met in Holywood Credit Union Building in Church View but by September 1996 it was agreed it was in a poor state of repair and moved to The Scout Hall in Ean Hill.

The first Dublin Bridge weekend was held in 1998, and it still takes place thanks to organising by Celine, Victoria et al.

In 2012 the Club moved from the Scout Hall to Holywood Golf Club. We now have 84 members
