Road closure

A very big thank you for entering the Stansfield Handicap Pairs on Sunday. I am pleased to say the event has attracted a maximum 17 table field which means we will play 36 boards.

However, the fates are doing their best to make things difficult as the main road in and out of the village will be closed on Sunday due to TWO separate sets of roadworks (see right). That will make it impossible to travel to Stansfield from the south via Clare.

So it is crucial to follow the map (below) and directions, which will get you to Stansfield village hall (CO10 8LW). Please allow extra time for your journey and aim to arrive no later than 10.45am.

From whatever direction you are travelling, you want to get on the A143 road which goes south-west from Bury St Edmunds towards Haverhill.

If you are travelling from the A14/ Ipswich/Bury St Edmunds direction, get on the A143 and drive about nine miles through Horringer, Chedburgh and Depden. About a mile after going through Depden, you will enter a 40 mph zone and drive down hill. Look out for a road sign telling you to TURN LEFT for Denston and Stansfield. Take this turning.

You will reach Denston after three quarters of a mile. Do not take the turning to the right into the village, but drive on for about 250 yards. You will go up up a hill which turns to the left. At the top,  TURN RIGHT (there is small, round house on the right). Follow this narrow road all the way (about two miles) to Stansfield. TURN LEFT when you finally reach a T junction and after 100 yards you will reach the village hall.

We will be putting out "Bridge this way" signs at key points on Sunday, starting with the turning off the A143. The telephone number for the village hall is 01284 789427. My mobile is 07557 131003.

Two other points: Bring your own lunch (the hall has a cooker and microwave should you require it) and don't forget the clocks go back on Sunday!

best wishes

Richard
