ALL COURSES WILL TAKE PLACE AT THE OLD VILLAGE HALL, LOWER STREET, STANSFIELD CO10 8LP (not the 'new' village hall where the bridge club meets). THEY INCLUDE:
ADVANCED. Mondays, 10.30am-12.30pm, starting on 10 October:
A 'game changer' whose topics include the Losing Trick Count, Unassuming Cue Bids (Andrew Robson's favourite convention - and mine too!), Stayman (two weeks), Doubling (two weeks) Forcing bids etc.
INTERMEDIATE POTPOURRI. Tuesdays, 11am-1pm, starting on 11 October:
My most popular course and one that some players like to return to. It is an ideal bidding refresher and, depending on those taking part, will include elements from the Intermeidate Extra course.
DEFENCE. Tuesdays, 2.30-4.30pm, starting on 11 October:
We spend 50% of the time at a bridge table defending, but far less time learning how to defend properly. This course is for those who have been playing for more than two years and it will concentrate on the fundamentals of defence - leads, signals, discards, counting etc
CARD PLAY. Thursdays, 10.30am-12.30pm, starting on 4 November:
The natural follow on from the Beginners course which focuses on how to play no trump and trump contracts, playing suit combinations correctly, opening leads, finessing etc
ADVANCED POTPOURRI. Saturday mornings, 11-1pm, starting on 22 October.
The final make up of this course will depend on those who take part, but it is likely to focus on some of the 'must have' conventions - Transfers, Roman Key Card Blackwood, Weak Twos, Splinters and Jacoby. If there is a topic you are particularly keen to learn, just let me know.
BEGINNERS. Thursdays, 10,30am-12.30pm starting on 6 October and possibly in the evening as well.
While learning the bidding basics may be a distant memory for many, you may care to tell friends about these courses. I have not run a beginners course in the evening for many years but will do so if there is sufficient demand from people for whom daytime is not an option.
WORKSHOPS. These are proving increasingly popular with four or eight players choosing topics of their choice and hosting the event at home. They usually start at about 10am and after a break for lunch continue to around 3.30pm. The usual format is a bidding topic in the morning followed by a card play topic in the afternoon. But feel free to decide your own 'menu'.
if you would like to enrol in a class or are interested in a workshop please complete the on line form below.
