Swiss Teams Success for St Andrew Players.

St Andrew-based teams made a clean sweep at the weekend's West District Swiss competition at Hamilton - winning all four top places, plus the Gold, Silver and Bronze prizes.

Sheila Macdonald's team - Maida Grant, Maria Jackson and John Donaldson - won the title.

Second place went to Hugh McCash's team - Alistair Macdonald, Douglas Mitchell and David Weir.

Kevin Strathern, along with David Ritchie, Stu Thomson and Nicol Taylor finished third and won the Silver Award after heading the leader board for much of the tournament.

And Steve Bailey's team - John McIntyre, John Gorton and Hans Halstvedt - came in fourth, picking up the Bronze Award.

Well played, everyone! A great result.

St Andrew Team in the Rayne Final

Sheila MacDonald, Maida Grant, Hugh McCash and John Di Mambro won 3rd prize in the National Final of the Rayne Teams on Saturday 4th January.

St Andrew Pair to play for Scotland !

Congratulations to Maida Grant and Sheila MacDonald who finished second in the recent trials.  They will play in the Lady Milne representing Scotland and we wish them well.

Cecil Raynes Teams

Well done to Duncan Rodger, Suresh Tyagi, Raymond McShane and Ian McClure on winning this event.

Ladies' Fours

Well done to Sheila and Maida playing with Liz McGowan and Sam Punch winning the Ladies' Fours recently - nice one !

St Andrew Club figures well in the Stirling Pairs

In the Stirling Pairs, held on Sunday 5th January in Falkirk, several of our Members distinguished themselves.  Douglas Mitchell and David Weir were first overall with Suresh Tyagi and Duncan Rodger coming in second.  Steve Bailey and John MacIntyre lifted the Silver Prize (first) with David Ritchie (playing with Alistair Ross) lifting the second placed Silver Pair.  Well done to all!

Duncan MacDonald Tournament

Well done to Ina Atkins and Nicol Taylor who won the Duncan MacDonald Tournament on Monday 13 January 2014.

Commonwealth Nations Bridge Championship

The recent "Scottish Bridge News" carried an article by Fiona Greenwood regarding the forthcoming Commonwealth Nations Bridge Championship which is being hosted in Glasgow between 8th and 4th September 2014.  If you are interested in hearing more about this exciting event and/or would like to help, please contact Fiona who will be delighted to hear from you.

Burton Salver Pairs

Congratulations to Sheila and Maida who won this year's event.

Western District Pairs Final

This was held in the Buchanan Club on Satuday 15th March and won by Hugh McCash and John Di Mambro.  They will be invited to play in the Inter-district Spence Cup on the 24th May.

St Andrew Cup

Well done to Alasdair Forbes, Bill Durning, Suresh Tyagi and Duncan Rodger who won this event.

Strang Teams of Four

The St Andrew Club's hosted this event on Tuesday 25th March which attracted a very large entry of 14 teams.  Our Club fared well in the prize-winners.  The winners were David Shenkin, Norman Levitt, Martin Diamond and Colin Black.  Maria Jackson, Jill Arthur, Sheila MacDonald and Maida Grant and Jill Arthur were second.  Third prize was shared jointly between two teams: Jim McMenemy, Paul Maiolani, Helen and Danny Kane and Douglas Mitchell, David Weir, Hugh McCash and John Di Mambro.

St Andrew Pair figure in the Ayrshire Congress Pairs

Well done to Kevin Strathearn and Stewart McDonald who won the Silver Prize in the Ayrshire Congress on Saturday 12th April.
