GERALD EVERITT 1931 – 2015
Gerald was a very early member of Hatfield & St.Albans Bridge Club, founded in 1964
at the Peahen Hotel. He joined shortly after the move from the small room near the
bar to the much larger conference room upstairs around 1967. His membership was
continuous until his illness earlier last year and now leaves only four members with that
claim.
Over the years, he has had a number of partners, the longest time being with George
Singer, but strangely, although being a very competent player, has never won any of the
Club Championships.
He served as Tournament Director from 1991 to 2006 and Chairman from 2006 to 2013
and also served on the County Committee, for some time as Tournament Director.
He will be sorely missed for his attention to detail in his organization, particularly the
Christmas Individual event.
During his time at the Club, he was ably supported by his wife, Marjorie, with whom
he played on many occasions.
He last appeared at the club on the 29th June last year (Still achieving a very good result of 4th place at nearly 60%!) playing with Careen Benjamin, who had helped Gerald to continue to play frequently over the last few years.
Gerald passed away peacefully on Friday 18th December 2015 at the Lister Hospital, Stevenage.
Many of the club and HBA were present at the funeral on Thursday 14th January 2016.
