SSCBA Sim Pairs - 15th August
Should you require a partener for either Monday or Wednesday afternoon please seek Sam`s assistance by phone, 07931702776, text or email.
It would be much appreciated if everyone could help in small ways at the start (getting scorecards etc out) and end of sessions (loading the dishwasher), don't leave the director to do everything!
If you would like to try your hand at scoring or directing please contact Terry Maltby or Michael Metcalf, more volunteers for these duties are always needed.
At all club sessions please arrive at least 15 minutes before play is due to start, 6:45 for 7 p.m. start, 7 for 7:15 start, 1:15 for 1:30 start. If you are running late please ring the club, 01785 246611, to let the scorer know you are on your way so that they can factor you in when setting up the movement and scoring systems.
A host system runs on Tuesday evenings whereby if you arrive at the club without a partner not later than 7 p.m. then the "stand by" for that evening will be called in to play with you.

A number of members sadly have health issues effecting their immune systems. Members are politely asked to refrain from playing at the club when suffering from infections. Super clean hands too at all times please to prevent any infection passing via the cards.
Members will be very sad to hear that Helen Jones passed away on Wednesday 1st August. Helen was a very popular Wednesday afternoon and Thursday evening player where she played regularly until very recently and will be much missed. She always had a friendly smile and kind words at the table. Helen took part in the Shelley teams competition for several years as a member of Sylvia Ullmer's team, indeed the team of Helen, Sylvia (captain), Rose, Dave and Peter won the competition in the 2016-17 season. Helen was a keen golfer at Ingestre Park Golf Club, where she was Lady Captain in 2016, and knew a number of bridge club members on the golf course too. Ruth, Helen's regular Wednesday partner writes, a wonderful friend and bridge partner, great sense of humour and a lady in every respect. Our thoughts are with Helen's family at this sad time.
Helen's funeral will be on Tuesday 21st August, 12.30pm Stafford crematorium and afterwards at Ingestre Park Golf club.
Watch local press and notices on the road for latest news.
Work is due to start on the canal bridge, closing the road to through traffic, from 10th September until 14th December. The work on the rail bridge was due to have started on July 23rd but has not actually done so as of 28th July.

Wednesday players were canvassed on July 4th when they voted in favour of taking part in this SSCBA event. 8 tables eventually played at Stafford with Ivor & Michael being the heat winners. Gina & Wendy came second and Beryl & Terry third. Many thanks to Terry, who acted as both director and scorer, for the session which ran like clockwork. The full results will be available within the next couple of days on the County website when the results from the five participating clubs have been combined.
The Summer Cup competition will be played on a Tuesday or Thursday evening on an ad hoc basis on the first occasion possible when a suitable number of players attend the session. If you don't want to miss it come along to every Tuesday or Thursday evening session over the summer!

The is a great opportunity for us to strengthen our team of TDs, and I commend it to everyone.
