12th to 15th April - Away weekend at Crabwall Manor Hotel, Chester, CH1 6NE
Should you require a partner for either Monday or Wednesday afternoon please seek Sam`s assistance by phone, 01785 818682, mobile 07931702776, text or email.
It would be much appreciated if everyone could help in small ways at the start (getting scorecards etc out) and at the end of sessions (loading the dishwasher, checking the windows are closed and the room is tidy) don't leave the director to do everything!
Presently volunteers are requested to act as stand bys on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month, please contact Terry if you are willing to do either of these dates.
If you would like to try your hand at scoring or directing please contact Terry Maltby or Michael Metcalf, more volunteers for these duties are always needed.
At all club sessions please arrive at least 15 minutes before play is due to start, 6:45 for 7 p.m. start, 7 for 7:15 start, 1:15 for 1:30 start. If you are running late please ring the club, 01785 246611, to let the scorer know you are on your way so that they can factor you in when setting up the movement and scoring systems.
A host system runs on Tuesday evenings in the month whereby if you arrive at the club without a partner not later than 7 p.m. then the "stand by" for that evening will be called in to play with you.

Many thanks to David for directing and to Terry for all the organisation both beforehand and then checking the results after the event. Please could all team captains check their scorecard results against the tablet score at each table and computer score before going home to make Terry's life easier.
If you would like to take part and are not in a team please contact Terry as reserves are frequently needed to cover illness and badly timed holidays!
Following the recent club TD training course at the club the results have finally come through, 11th February, (assessment done on January 12th) and it is good news we now have several new directors. Please give them a warm welcome.
The usual format - one partner brings some food to share and the other to bring a prize. These are fun social events appealing to players of all abilities. Visitors are always welcome. A partner is required this time. If you do not have a partner please contact David to see if he can find one for you. BEWARE - if Baswich Lane on your route there may be weekend repairs to railway bridge from 1p.m. on Saturdays until 6 a.m. Mondays that will close the road.
Time to be organising your team. A good turn out please for our new Captain in his first year in office.
Holders: Beryl & Michael M, Deirdre & Michael S
A good turn out, 9 tables at Stafford. Unfortunately an error came to light afterwards, which made minor differences to the percentages, originally a tie for third place now separated out into third and fourth. After the correction to board 3 the winners at Stafford were Ivor & Liz, second John & Ann with third Terry & Gordon. The final results have now been posted on the County website, the overall winners played at Chasetown with the second pair at Oswestry and Liz & Ivor third see SSCBA overall results for all thirty five tables. The camera woman too slow to catch the SBC winners at the time with her "point and click" camera, a lucky mistake as a good picture now taken by another!
The scorer achieved an interesting movement that caused some confusion, somehow requested round 2 as the arrow switch round instead of arrow switching for the last 2 rounds!
The winners were Alan & Dave A both before and after the handicap applied (total 71.23%) seen here under the Dash Trophy Board, with Dave R & Peter 2nd (58.77%) and Ivor & Robin 3rd (50.95%). Thanks are due to Terry for the event running so smoothly. Readers might like to read something of Hugo Dash who presented the trophy to the club way back when........
David has posted a sheet on the club notice board for members to sign up to give an early indication that they would like go to the away weekend. Singles will be most welcome. Pat & John, Janet and David have all stayed at the Crabwall Manor Hotel, Mollington, Chester, CH1 6NE and can recommend it as an excellent venue for the club's away weekend 12th-15th April 2019. Click the link here for the poster. A number of members have already signed up and plan to bring their "other halves" who are not bridge players, someone (?) might be able to organise non-bridge events/outings during the bridge sessions.
Robin's class at Stafford was well represented at this event in 2019 with five out to the 12 SBC players taking part on Thursday 21st February. Two others who used to play on Friday evenings also played coming 2nd EW. Best placed was Friday morning pupil, Carl, from Paul and Terry's group coming 2nd NS but won a prize for best placed runner up with 58.14%. Carl was playing with ex-teacher Ann who took the beginner's class at Stafford in the Autumn.
